String Theory. Some thoughts about Aurélien Bory's Plexus.
Bory's extraordinary work crossed boundaries between dance, sound art and installation.The raw physicality of Kaori, dancer and subject of this piece and the hallucinatory phenomena of the set make this a truly transformative work. Leaving the audience reflecting and submerged in a language of weightless peristaltic perspectives.
Kaori's Butoh~Ballet~Capoeira training translated a complex landscape with the illusion o...f limitation into a transparent volume with a seemingly endless potential for weightless expression.
The process Bory describes starting from a life size marionette, disregarding this in the works development and concluding with 5800 strings was an enlightening narrative, a key to the landscape created. Releasing the body from the constraints of the tendons that resonate individually and collectively in both the retina and cochlea during the performance.The work is tenderly stripped back, ideas reduced to concentrated metaphysics.
