A big well done to our colleague James who came to the rescue when an elderly couple locked their car keys in their vehicle when they were packing their shopping at our Newmains store.
James registered the couple with the AA and then made sure they were comfortable as they waited for them to arrive. The couple were so grateful for James's act of kindness that they wrote a thank you letter to the store, saying: "We really did appreciate your help and trouble and patience in getting the AA out to help us. There's not many who would have done that. God bless you." Store manager Ciaran said: "I think this story especially highlights James’s fantastic customer service and caring nature. He's a very thoughtful colleague and this just proves what a great colleague he is to have on our team!"
Our fantastic checkouts colleague Deborah was inspired by her deaf colleague Jean to learn sign language so she can better communicate with customers who are deaf or hard of hearing at our Rushden store.
Deborah (pictured on the left) developed an interest in sign language when she and Jean started working together 13 years ago and has picked up lots from Jean as well as teaching herself more from books. Her efforts haven't gone unnoticed, with one customer thanking Deborah o...n Facebook for her "excellent deaf awareness and signing" which had made a "big difference" to her shopping experience. Deborah, who's now teaching some of her colleagues some basic language, said: "It must be quite a lonely world for people who are deaf or hard of hearing so to come shopping and actually communicate with them must make them feel a lot better. I have about three or four deaf customers who come through my till as they know I can sign and it's nice to be able to ask them how their day's gone and what they've been up to." Jean said: "Deborah is a great person – very open minded, helpful and understanding of how deaf people communicate. I think it's great that she has, and is still, learning sign language.
