The flowers are starting to appear and make a stunning feature in the woods and parks. One of the best spots to see them is at Blickling where guided walks are held next week. Also to celebrate the beautiful bell, the house will be lit up in blue at night from today until 19 May. Images by Lesley va...

We have visited the Assembly many times over the last few years, for afternoon tea and for the odd night away when going to the Theatre. Always delighted with every aspect if our visits. Afternoon tea... is excellent, Sandwiches are always fresh with a lovely selection. An introduction of an extra layer this year has been really great, salmon mousse was fantastic in January. Both cheese and fruit scones are served fresh with gorgeous butter, homemade jam and as much clotted cream as you wish. The cheese scones really are the best in town. The top dessert layer is always a special treat, and we often have to have it boxed to take away. You won't leave hungry, but don't be shy, the staff are fabulous and approachable you just have to ask. We always are given a friendly smile. Service isnt at full speed, its quiet and respectful non intrusive. I really like that, and it makes for a relaxed atmosphere. The tea and coffee choice is vast, from traditiinal to exotic. Beautiful surroundings, great service and super food. Highly recommended. I would love to be able to purchase a scone recipe card, in fact a recipe book would be superb. See More

I booked the Assembly House for my Mum’s birthday on Saturday, and they were so accommodating with various requests - down to an entirely vegan afternoon tea when I mentioned that my youngest child ha...s an egg allergy (jelly instead of mousse, vegan cakes, plain sandwiches instead of the usual ‘grown up’ variations) meaning that she was fully able to join in and had a great experience. Mum had a glass of champagne and a special small cake with message and lighted candle. Attentive wait-staff, and a lovely ambience. Perfect pre-shopping treat. Thank you for having us, and catering to us so well. If possible could I have a copy of the menu as my Mum would like it as a keepsake to remember what she had (plus we’ve been arguing over the scone and toastie flavours!!). See More

The best afternoon tea! and no problem with a vegan choice - All so tasty and well presented, love all the different flavours! and a huge selection of teas too. The service is impeccable and unrushed.... and glad there are doggy bags to take away! Love the fact that the menu changes too, so each time we go, its a different choice! See More

Wonderful service and afternoon tea. I was impressed that the staff had noted my husband's intolerance to strawberries and brought him a separate cake stand with all his goodies minus the strawberries.... All of the savouries, scones and sweet pastries were fresh and delicious. And top ups of savouries were much enjoyed. A good range of teas to choose from too. We came away very happy with a cake box of the treats we just could not manage. All in all a lovely way to celebrate my Mum's birthday - she said it would be a happy memory to cherish. Thank you! My family and I came for the eggstra-ordinary Easter afternoon tea yesterday. Just wanted to let you know what a lovely time we had. The Easter theme was fab and the attention to detail in your cakes amazing! I also wanted to say thank you to our lovely waiter. Nothing was too much trouble and he was great with my daughter who is an extremely fussy eater. We do hope you will do another themed afternoon tea soon! See More

Food was lovely, waiting staff were attentive and knowledgeable, but sadly the crockery and cutlery didn’t receive the love it needed. Dirty, stained and some unwashed bits really tarnished the meal. ...
Bone china would have been much nicer than cheap ceramic cup and saucer, and actually taking the time to look at each of the crocs and cutlery when it is “unused” buy a previous table would be a good idea (a ‘clean’ spoon covered in jam is not a clean spoon!)
I expect higher quality and care in an establishment like this, but at least the food was nice so wasn’t a totally wasted journey.

We celebrated by sisters wedding yesterday and I can honestly say Jamie and his team were fabulous! Nothing was too much trouble, Jamie went above and beyond to make sure the day went without a hitch,... catering for last minute requests and for the bride and groom to feel so special. We would highly recommend the venue and wonderful team here. Thankyou for making my sisters day so wonderful! See More

Booked for 2 nights for a wedding that was being hosted here. Ended up staying an additional night due to bad weather at home.

Every single member of staff without exception was courteous, helpful an...d engaging, this was throughout the wedding and our stay.

Nothing was too much trouble. The food was wonderful and the rooms (both public and bedroom) beautiful.

Thank you for a wonderful stay and for being so helpful when we requested to stay an additional night.

The team should be proud of their efforts, which really added to our visit

Really lovely afternoon tea. Accompanied by lovely music from pianist. We will definitely return. Very nearly worth 5 stars but the restaurant was full so had a bit of a wait when asking for additiona...l pots of tea etc. That’s not a criticism but maybe another staff member would have helped on such a busy afternoon. Thanks. Hope to see you again soon. See More

My 6 year old daughter and I came for the Halloween Afternoon Tea (along with Norbert the Dinosaur who was appropriately dressed as a ghost). All the serving staff were fantastic - kind, polite and ha...ppy to help us, even chatted with my daughter about her Dinosaur and her plaster cast (she had a broken arm). The food was excellent - the sandwiches and the scones were top quality, and the special cakes for the occasion were amazing, very tasty and beautifully decorated.
We love coming to The Assembly House for a treat, and these themed afternoon teas are perfect for having a mummy - daughter day!

The place was nice, the staff courteous, the tea refreshing (I had the fruity Darjeeling) and the fresh scone with clotted cream absolutely delicious - however the sandwiches were a BIG letdown - the ...brown bread dry and stale, we asked for replacement ham sandwiches as they were the worst, thick dry bread with a single very thin slice of ham, but the replacements just as bad, and the coronation chicken was almost flavourless (or possibly overtaken by the flavour of the dry bread). The white bread cream cheese and cucumber the bread was soggy, obviously the cucumber had been put in a while before and the moisture had soaked in making it somewhat wet and gooey. I would complain about there being so few of them as well but we didn't even finish the ones we had so there is no point! We were also promised a goody bag when we left which didn't materialise - although there were almost no staff left at the point we left the restaurant at 4.30pm. For £20 a head I would have liked much better sandwiches and for the service to be a bit quicker - we were seated about 20 minutes before being served (although it was busy). See More

I was there for an all day study. Good coffee on tap all day and lovely jugs of iced water. Nice room for the seminar.
Surprised at the strong cooking smells when we walked through the reception area.... Especially the fish. I was pleased not to be eating in that restaurant. Is there a problem with venting? See More

Would have been a lot more stars if the quantities of our lunch had been adult size. The main was really tasty but as small as a starter. The pudding was tiny too. And very very pricey. Such a shame... as the chefs are obviously talented but the portion sizes DO NOT warrant the price. Will not be returning based on that. Shame ..... See More

Fantastic food, beautiful setting, but the service was awful. It was my sisters hen do (she's pregnant) so thought we would do something quiet and involving lots of yummy cakes. We couldn't fault the as it was truly lovely but the waiters were not friendly, smiley and kept forgetting not only certain foods and drinks but to even come over to our table. Not once did anybody as if everything was okay and as they kept forgetting things we were sat waiting trying to get their attention for a long time! We tried making it special as it was my sisters hen do so we got little decorations and not once did anyone comment on the fact she was soon to be married, but a comment saying please don't spill the decorations I will be here hours cleaning up. It was busy when we got there but towards the end of our afternoon there were only a few tables left and still took us all turning and looking at them trying to get their attention to come over. Very disappointing service after such lovely food and drink. See More

Absolutely gorgeous Halloween tea yesterday to celebrate my daughters 5 birthday. 4 kids and 3 adults and every one of us had a brilliant time. Food was delicious and so well presented and quirky and ...the display cake in the entrance was a massive hit. The waiter who served us was lovely and chatty and looked after us really well. Would definitely recommend and we will be coming back again soon! See More

Afternoon Tea was a little disappointing. My vegetarian companion found her sandwich filling unappetising. Having experienced Tea in another establishment very recently, thought the bread could have b...een a little more fresh- it didn't quite have that soft texture. My Camomile Tea presented quite a large problem in that although it's nice to have fresh flowers, it's not particularly practical to have it dribble out of the spout because of it blocking and I found myself having to request something to poke down the neck, clearing the blockage. An infuser would have been an ideal solution. Overall it was an enjoyable hour or so but for the cost I really did expect a better experience. See More
