This Week on the @sustainabilityportal : What Does it Mean to be a ‘Sustainable’ Fashion Label?

After chatting with a few up-and-coming labels in the Australian industry, it became clear that 'sustainable' practice in fashion is a complex web.
Some of the various definitions focused on things such as 100 percent natural fibres, whole garment design, clothing tailored to last, holistic ecosystems, working from home and ensuri...ng actual needs are being fulfilled. Sustainability is trial and error, and it’s being aware and environmentally conscious of all that you do⠀.

"Barriers as an emerging label are access to good retail/showroom spaces, capital to start and access to exposure to target markets. Opportunities can be found in the local industry in peer support/collaboration, access to good local manufacturing and some locally made textiles. Being a part of Curated has been an incredible opportunity for us to grow our physical presence as well as develop very strong industry and peer relationships." Courtney Holm from @A.BCH on being an emerging label in the local industry.

Catch Courtney at the Curated Work Shop at St. Collins Lane this month! Level 1 shop 13.

Meet the Curated Work Shop crew! First up Courtney from @A.BCH

"Why do I do what I do? I am passionate to see the fashion industry changed for good. By running my business with a mission that aligns closely with my personal values, I feel I can be a part of that change and lead by example for others. It’s definitely not easy, but I couldn’t image having it any other way and I feel so privileged to be able to do what I do." Courtney Holm, @A.BCH
