POSITION STATEMENT
RICARDO AZZIZ FOR 2014 PENN STATE ALUMNI TRUSTEE

Penn State is one of the world’s great research universities – a great University whose time is now and whose future, reputation and traditions deserve protecting, upholding and supporting. A proud University.
We have been through a very difficult period that has seen our values as a University and as alumni questioned, and an important part of our history erased. Our traditions and history are not simply par...t of the past; they are the very fabric that binds our many communities together. Trustees must ensure that these are vigorously defended, and all options examined and pursued. The reputation of our University deserves no less.
But Trustees must also be student-centered and future-oriented. A future that speaks to the success of our students, to the quality and affordability of our education, to the growth, competiveness, and sustainability of our programs, to the support of our outstanding faculty and dedicated staff, to our advancement of our innovation and discovery, and to the richness of our broader university community. Because, our future generations deserve the opportunities we had.
As a long time dedicated alum, university educator, scientist, and academic leader, I understand the courage, delicate balance, and focused dedication required of Trustees to safeguard and maximize the reputation and traditions of the University, while ensuring its strong and healthy future. A task that entails maximum transparency, candid honesty, and a clear understanding of what is right… for our great University’s past, present… and future. Let’s be PENN STATE PROUD.
