At last night's BESD #53 Board meeting, staff and community members were recognized.
Dr.Hollowell had the privilege of once again chairing the Kiwanis Scholarship Program. Kiwanis awarded these 8 local seniors with $1,000 college scholarships! When you donate to Kiwanis you are giving back to the youth of the community.
We have created seven different fun enrichment camps for BESD 53 students during the month of June. Please click this link for all the options. Use the Google Form links on the document to sign up for individual camps. You can sign up for more than one.

BUGC Kankakee Kiwanis Club Student Achievement Award Winner: Christina Oakes
Christina is well-deserving of the Kiwanis Award. She is a hard worker with an enthusiastic attitude and dedication to her school work. She is well-respected by both teachers and her peers. She has a positive attitude, always gives her best, and is willing to put in the extra effort to go above what’s expected of her. She thinks outside the box and is never shy when asked to present her ideas in class.
BUGC CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS – GRADES 6 -8
If you are interested in trying out for cheerleading, please take note of the following:
• Tryouts will be Monday May 14th, Wednesday May 16th, and Thursday May 17th from 3:00pm-5:00pm in the gym at Bourbonnais Upper Grade Center....
• We are a competitive squad so we are looking for athletes who will be committed to all the preparation and hard work that goes into competing.
• We will be focusing on sharp moves, tumbling, jumps, and positions for stunts during tryouts.
• We will have summer practices and highly encourage our cheerleaders to join a tumbling class to improve their skills.
In order to tryout, you MUST do the following:
1. Have an updated physical turned into the school office. THIS PHYSICAL MUST HAVE BEEN WITHIN THE LAST YEAR!
2. Have a school insurance waiver signed by your parents and turned into the school office.

Don't forget the Shepard spring concert tomorrow April 20th. 1st grade performs at 9:30. 2nd grade performs at 2:00. There will only be one performance per grade level.
Congratulations to Gianna Kohl and Brodie Neblock for being the Upper Grade Centers selections to recieve the Rotary Club Award. They represent us well!!
Today at BUGC 7th grade team Gold teachers developed STEM Lessons for the entire school. These were innovative lessons that encouraged students to think critically, collaborate, and use their creativity to problem solve. Thanks to the team for designing another opportunity to live our mission statement of “Creating Tomorrow’s Innovators” and having fun.
Today’s 6th garde Track Meet with Summit Hill is cancelled.
Mrs. Kibbons' fourth graders facilitated a planting activity with their Kindergarten buddies from Mrs. Fletcher's class, to celebrate Earth Day. (Shepard)
