Beware: Viewer digression is advised
This Fish Friday we have an unwanted guest. The lionfish is one of the most destructive invasive species we have at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area.
The lionfish eats all the native reef species and has no natural predators, virtually dominating these fragile tropical habitats that are slowly diminishing....
How you can help:
Be the predator! While snorkeling, if you come across one of these invaders, it is encouraged to safely eliminate them with a net or pole spear, being cautious of their venomous spines. They also make a delicious ceviche, Here is a great recipe:

Even heavy metal fans don't have anything on this head-banging male Pileated Woodpecker!
This big dude and his mate have been sighted scouring our dead snags here at the ONA. Pairs mate for life and often build nests in areas like this!
Come take a walk on the trails, bring your binoculars, and get to bird watching!...
