Do Not ever get “free magazines” from here! I am beyond livid at no time was I told I would be charged for these magazines! I’m even more livid at the fact that my debit card information was given to ...this company with out my consent! I have sent emails and have received one generic response! You need to stop this practice before someone sues you!

To whom it may concern,
I am sending you this email to inform you of how displeased I am with some actions that have occurred through your company. I hardly ever go to books a million and this gives me even more of a reason to never return. Some time ago I went and purchased a book for my stepson and was asked if I wanted to participate in some free magazine trials. I first told the sales associate no and she assured me that these were totally free to me. I hesitantly said yes and circled what magazines I would be interested in. At no time was I told I would ever be charged for anything nor was I ever told that a third party company would be given my bank card information. It wasn’t until today when I saw the charge on my card and after doing 30 minutes worth of research that I found the link between the magazines and books a million. This is a shame. I am not sure if the ball was dropped in the sales associate not communicating properly or if your business practices are just that shady. Thank you for your time in the matter.

I have always loved this store (kokomo,in) however today really pissed me off. As my husband and I walked in there was an elderly couple late 70s early 80s maybe he was a tall man at least 6ft an...d she couldnt have been more 5ft. You can clearly see her struggle to help him walk let alone get out of the door and to their car. The young man behind the counter (that is literally right next to the doors) is just sitting there on his danm phone!!! I stood there a couple minutes thinking maybe he will not only welcome us but ask this women if she needed help but no. I watched him look up at the four of us then back to his phone. So my husband offered to help. We held this poor man up while she ran out to get the car then helped her get him to the car. All the while this boy is on his phone randomly looking up at us like we are idiots. Then, and this the cake topper, after we went back into the store spent a good 30mins looking around we are walking out the boys says "can I help you" really?!?! It is heartbreaking to me a disrespectful. I could understand a little if this was another customer, but as an employee the least he could have done is held the door open See More

Was signed up for "free" magazines that I was told I would get an email to cancel.. never got an email to cancel, just a charge on my card that was without my knowledge given to time magazine. At no t...ime was I told my credit information would be given to anyone else. I sure didn't sign anything so I don't know how that's even legal. I do not want the bam membership, I guess I better call and cancel that before I'm unknowingly charged for that also. Plus the fact that when i was signed up i was unaware i was even going to be charged for the stupid membership. I wouldnt have signed up if i knew that. I will not shop in your store again. This is ridiculous that you would trick people this way. See More

I’m so glad I read some of these reviews I was told when I signed up with the magazines that I wouldn’t be charged and I told them I didn’t want them and they said they would send them regardless and I just called my local books a million and asked them sure enough after 2 months they start charging. So they gave me the 1-800 number to call and cancel them and I spoke with the representative and they asked if I wanted to continue another subscription for only $3 a month per set and all I kept saying Is I didn’t want them in the first place so I’m going to monitor my bank account and make sure it doesn’t come out. But besides all that I love my local store and I get great deals all the time!! See More

I was at Books a Million in Aiken yesterday, and the cashier asked of I'd like to join their Billionaire club ( discount card). She explained to me that the card is usually $25.00, however it was onl...y $18.00 today. Plus, I would receive 10% off of my purchase and a $5.00 gift card. I agree and I did get the gift card and 10% off of my purchase. I look at my receipt, and sure enough I was charged $25 for the card. I went back in and a female manager tried to tell me that the card always rings at $25, but with my discount it made it $18. Well, no the discount was the 10% I was supposed to get with the card. I told her that they needed to stop lying yo people and telling them it was $18 when it was really still $25. I had to wall out because I was hot! See More

I have been a BAM customer for years as it is the closest books store to my home. I just had my last experience with them though. My fiancé wanted to get me the Harry Potter book series for Christmas.... We went to the store, waited in line for about 30 minutes, only to get up to the register for them to tell us that it would be much cheaper to order it online. They said they could order it for us and have it sent to our apartment. It was a $30 difference (which in itself is ridiculous) so we went for it. My fiancé mentioned that we’ve had trouble with packages being stolen from our apartment and asked if they could have it shipped to the store instead. They said they absolutely could not do that. Again, it was a $30 difference, so we went ahead with the order anyway. The package was delivered while we were out of town and, you guessed it, it was stolen. My fiancé had an order from amazon delivered around the same time and they sent him a picture of it on our door mat in the hallway. My books were clearly in the picture. Everything was stolen. Amazon refunded his money for the other order, no problem. Books-a-Million said there was absolutely nothing they could do about it because it had been delivered. They were the ones who decided it was a good idea to leave a package in the hallway of an apartment building. No refund, no replacement, nothing. We won’t be spending our money there anymore. I ordered a gift back on January 15th. It still says pending on delivery. When I spoke to customer service they said it is on back order and may never be delivered. Then the customer service rep after 40 days it is just canceled completely. What kind of business is this? Because I live in another state I ordered it online for delivery but yet this item is in many of your stores to include the stores near where she lives. I would never recommend this company and wish I never picked up the membership. See More

I bought 10+ Funko Pops through their website. Two of my Funko Pops were missing from the shipment. It has been 10 days and their customer service refuse to ship my missing items after sending multi...ple e-mails to them. Their distribution center says that the two items were shipped, so what the customer says does not matter. I guess that they do not care about making things right with customers. Too bad I just renewed my yearly card with them. See More

I signed up for this Millionaire's membership yesterday. I made it clear, at the time, that there was not a BAM store in convenient distance to me, and I was assured that I would get the same benefits... online. This was factually untrue. The 10% discount does not show up, the order showed a shipping cost, and the coupons in my email are in-store only.

I immediately contacted corporate, since I live out of city from the location the purchase was made. The initial email completely ignored my request for a refund. I contacted them again, and was told that corporate cannot make refunds, and I would have to drive an hour and a half away to get my money back.

The customer service reps were useless, if not obstructionist. The salespeople, misleading. I will never shop at any of these stores again.

Books A Million stole money from my five-year-old daughter. She bought me a unicorn keychain for Christmas and the piece of garbage Horn broke off the first time I used it and the tail broke off the n...ext day. They would not take it back because she didn’t have a receipt and would not give her her money back or store credit. Don’t ever shop here they rip off five-year-olds. See More

Very unhappy with this store. Understaffed, "free" magazine issues, and clean but unorganized shelves. The thing I am most upset about- like other people leaving reviews- is the free magazines. I was ...told by a worker- who was clearly not told the truth about the situation- that the magazines were 100% free, no catches, no subscriptions. I then noticed charges on my card from a very vague, undescript company. Turned out to be the magazine company. My card information was handed over without me knowing and I was signed up for a subscription. Worst part is the uneducated employees probably get told off about this all the time! Educate your staff so they don't deal with the repercussions of your scumminess, BAM! Its bad enough you force them to meet a quota or they face termination, but a quota for a service that charges you fees behind your back is just the lowest of the low. See More

I was given a new cell phone cover by a friend. It didn’t work for my phone. I didn’t have a receipt, since it was a gift. I’m not a member and neither is she. They wouldn’t allow me to return it ...even though the price was on it and it said BAM! The manager was a cocky young guy too! Wanted to tell him where he could stick that cover but Jesus helped me control my mouth! Never going in BAM again. Prefer LifeWay because they don’t charge you $25 a year to get extra discounts. Got my bank statement and saw a $25 charge from Books A Million for apparent auto renewal of their book club. I do NOT want a renewal. I have called their number (800/876-4510) time and time again ...during their "business hours". I always get a recording, stating their hours are 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday thru Saturday and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday; no one is available; how important my call is; and to leave my name and number. The call is then (every time) immediately disconnected before giving me an opportunity to leave a message. See More

Wish I could give a big fat 0! After 30 minutes searching for the book I needed yesterday and listening to the SPEECH about the Millionaire's Club, I get to the register and the same person starts the... speech again...went on for 10 minutes, after a polite "no" 3 times! order came to $37 but the Mgr. refused to take my $100 bill!...policy: if the change back is more than 1/2 of the denomination you are paying with they can't do it!! She said if my change back would have been $50 (1/2 of the $100) or less, no problem but $51 or more, no can do. Took my $100 bill, pushed the bag back across the counter and left....will never make any purchase of any kind from BAM again. Ridiculous! See More

Fair warning to anyone who shops at Books-A-Million.

I'm going through my expenses and going through my bank statements and after some digging I realized that this reoccurring payment keeps happening... every now and then and after some research on the number from the statements... it's apparently through Books-a-Million.

I don't remember the last time I went there... probably a year ago, but this reoccurring charge has been for the last 18 months and probably further back than that, but it's a magazine subscription that I never signed up for. I do NOT ever receive magazines. Upon further research.... A HUGE HANDFUL OF OTHER PEOPLE are dealing with this issue as well. Books a Million has been charging people without their permission for a magazine subscription and they're probably doing it to you too if you've ever shopped there.

The number that appears on the bank statement is 855-225-7494 and then a magazine name that varies per month. So search that in your statements to see if it's happening to you too.

Apparently if you call the number about it, there's a possibility they could refund you but then there's reports that they will still charge you every so often.

So I just got off the phone with my bank I have to spend more time at the bank and go through the charges in person, get a new debit card sent in so it doesn't keep happening, and then change my card number on all my automatic bills. I'm pretty livid that I'm wasting my day on this now.

I got scammed in BAM today at the register! The girl asked me about magazines and i said sure...never once did she tell me that the 2mths free i was getting was linked to my credit card i used to pay... at the register for the stuff i bought. So now i have to go thru the hassle of canceling these magazines before they charge my credit card....ill never step foot in a BAM store again! See More

Review of an online purchase... my audio book wouldn't download to my phone. I tried to contact them but they never responded. Money down the drain. I finally got it on my PC but I can't listen to my ...PC in the car, so it's useless. I had to buy the audio book elsewhere. They took my money and apparently don't care if I can actually get the product. Big company with terrible customer support. See More

They conned me into purchasing a $25.00 annual membership, so i could use the discount coupons. For a month, i used the $5.00 off coupons on the purchase of 1 or 2 books. Now they're telling me i have... to spend $25.00 in order to use the 5 dollars off coupons, which i have already paid for. I'm taking my business elsewhere. They're just a rip off! See More

I just got the BAM card today and after reading these reviews I am going to cancel it! Thankfully I didn't use a credit card to buy it, so they have no record of my credit card number for fraudulent b...illing! I have had a Barnes & Noble card for many years and never had any problems with orders placed online, my NOOKS or their Customer Service! I also get many discount coupons both in the mail & online throughout the year from them! They are the best! FYI, I cannot even get to a legitimate BAM survey site right now to take it the survey!
