Biden, Buttigieg, and Klobuchar Backed By Vulture Funds Set to Profit From Puerto Rico

"The candidates say they support Puerto Rico, but they are holding onto campaign contributions from executives at hedge funds that recently negotiated an agreement that would force Puerto Rico to make cash payments, limiting funds available for the island's rebuilding efforts.
...
Biden, for example, has taken more than $20,000 in large contributions from employees of firms involved in this... deal. His donors include Frank Brosens, the co-founder and owner of Taconic Capital Advisors, which owns at least $191 million worth of Cofina bonds; $2,000 from Clinton Biondo, managing partner at Puerto Rico bondholder Fir Tree Partners, and $2,800 from Kenneth Eberts, a partner and portfolio manager at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, the division of the Wall Street banking giant that specializes in so-called vulture investing in the distressed debt of places like Puerto Rico."

Boricuas Unidos en la Diáspora - BUDPR

The narrative of Puerto Ricans meriting more respect because of the simple fact that they are American citizens is a vehicle of modern colonialism that diminish...es the identity of Puerto Ricans and exposes a paternalistic mentality that perpetuates power dynamics between both nations and prevents U.S. politicians from reflecting and coming to terms with their colonial treatment of the island.

This narrative must be opposed—it is an impediment to solving the unjust relationship between the people of Puerto Rico and the United States.

In the coming months, BUDPR will continue its mission of engaging with members of Congress, such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, in regards to Puerto Rican issues, with the objective of working towards a better, self-sufficient, an empowered Puerto Rico.

BUDPR is a powerful voice for the Puerto Rican people, particularly the diaspora. See More
