Baltimore Rath & the Islands Community Council has liaised with Cork County Council and the community as a whole and successfully acquired planning permission t...o erect a memorial within the village in memory of those lost at sea.
The memorial has been designed by two well known local artists Helen Walsh and Paddy McCormack. The structure will be 3mH x 2mL x 3mW and of copper, bronze and stainless steel. The artists describe the structure being the parting sea forming two copper and bronze waves rising from the ground into the shape of a heart. Copper rings of varying sizes, representing the souls lost to the sea, are drawn up through the heart strings and released into the air. The structure of the two waves will take on a large scale dynamic form to reflect & capture the power and energy of the sea. The weathered copper and bronze will take on a turquoise patina.
We are currently fundraising to reach a target of €35,000 to see the project completed. We understand that this has been a difficult year for everyone, but we would be very grateful if you would consider donating to this community project, which we think, is a thoughtful opportunity to appropriately commemorate those that have been lost to the sea.
Donations can be made through the link below to our GoFundMe page, or by bank transfer or cheque. Private message for details.
All donations will be welcomed and appreciated.
PLEASE SHARE AND SPREAD THE WORD. THANKS!

Happy Retirement to Nick at Wreckfish.com, enjoy your down time.

Sad to announce that after more than 40 years I have decided to hang up up my seaboots for good. ‘Rooster’ is now on the market. Thank you to everyone who fishe...d with me over the years. There were some great days and even a few fish sometimes! It’s a shame it had to end on such a wretched year. Things have changed a lot since I started but there’s still plenty of good fishing to be had at Baltimore. Nick
