I like Barry lake, usually fish there when I need a change of scenery, that's not terribly far from home. This was my first time using the archery range, as I was unaware they had one until recently.... Nice little setup, ranges from 10-60 yards, as well as a small 10 range 3D hunt. They were teaching kids to shoot bows when I arrived, and they all seemed to be having a good time. I love the idea of getting kids into the sport. While the range was nice, then target bais are in DIRE need of maintenance. Most of which had mostly exposed thatch as the bags were completely worn. I'd suggest bringing your own block with you. My wife and son then hit the 3D hunt. Not much variety, and most of the 3D targets were undersized and unkept. Many having holes right through them, or split in half. Not sure if they are just that worn out or they need better monitoring to keep people from using broadheads, but the 3D targets were in rough shape. Overall, if there were better upkeep, it'd be a completely different and overall great experience. In the meantime though, if you've got your own block and just need a place to sight in or shoot, it'll work just fine. See More

Barr Lake is one of the most magical parks in Colorado. From the sweeping mountain views and easy hiking trails, to the majestic eagles who winter and nest, raising their young there, to the ever awes...ome osprey dancing in the sky, to the multitude of water birds that grace you with their presence, there is something for everyone at Barr Lake. Water level is higher than I've seen, but then I've only been coming here for a few months. Windy day with white caps on the water and the crash of each wave on the shoreline sounded like i was back i...n southern California at the beach - without the sand and saltwater. Too much wind though - left earlier than i wanted. Saw only one big bird gliding in the wind - not sure what it was... See More

Beautiful birds and plant life. I love the pelicans and herons but if you like a variety of small birds there is plenty of those as well. The trail is well kept and clean. It is a little buggy at time...s but I guess that comes along with a marsh bird environment. And with a 9-mile trail, there is plenty to explore. Make sure you bring water with you. Keep an eye out for an occasional pheasant on the road to the refuge. Make a point to go inside the building at the refuge it's worth the time. See More

Love that you're so close to Denver International. Great place to visit the day you arrive or the day you depart. We barely saw any if it, but we're impressed with what we DID see and will make it a ...regular stop in our travels. The best parts... clean bathrooms and friendly staff! See More

We love barr Lake. We love taking the horses there. It's such a beautiful place to ride. Absolutely love the new obstacle course. Thank you for that. We love it!! It's nice to do learn new stuff with... the horses. Everyone is very respectful of us and the horses. The bike riders need educated a little more about fast things coming at a horse and what can happen when they spook. Please just notify us you're coming and slow down. We are all there to have fun and stay safe. See More

We love Barr Lake. It's changes all year long so it's rarely quite the same. We've been watching the family of Bald Eagles for years. They raise their young and teach them to hunt the Canada geese tha...t flock there every year. Fascinating to watch. Bring your camera! Deer, coyotes, fox, owls, fish jumping, ducks, geese, eagles, fall leaves, winter snow, spring flowers... See More

I'm sort of biased. I live within a mile. This lake has all the amenaties of any other state lake, minus the congestion! We recently purchased a paddle board, and had the whole lake to ourselves. I lo...ve the pelicans, eagles, and other wildlife there.
Great place!

The views are beautiful, the staff are super friendly, the bathrooms were clean! It also has a very educational center! My only complaint are the wasp nests at the Meadowlark Pavilion.

This is a great place to view the sunrise because the topography of the east of the park is flat and unimpeded by buildings. The lake freezes over in the winter but the surrounding canal remains ice-f...ree and acts as a beautiful reflective pool for spectacular photos.

If you are a bird lover, or even if you may not be, the bird viewing is unmatched in the local area. On my first visit a couple weeks ago, I had the experience of seeing thousands of Canadian geese take to flight at once at about 8-9 AM from way out in the middle of the lake, which was frozen over. There were so many geese taking off that they looked like a black cloud or tornado rising up to the sky!

I took the loop trail all around the lake, which took me about 5 1/2 hours to complete. In addition to the variety of birds, I also saw some deer near the shore and a timid black fox which ran and hid in some tall grass when it saw me approaching.

I love all the bird feeders at the nature center, drawing lots and lots of different birds at once. I could sit for hours at the comfy couch and watch all the birds feeing right outside the big bay window.

Have been waiting an hour and a half for a boat inspection. This is ridiculous. Will just go to Jackson lake from now on.

A nice place to go. But they need to put a bridge over the canal to the bathroom on the other side. Dont you know us old people need to use the facilities more often? Also a few more trash cans alon...g the trail would be nice. I always clean up after my dogs but would prefer not to have to carry stinky hot poop for a mile or more. See More
