President Macron : "Le Liban est le seul modèle pluraliste réussi dans la région, c'est de cela que nous devons nous inspirer"

A blessed Hannukah to all!

A bit delayed but Lebanese Jewish banker, Edgar de Picciotto and his wife Daniele Bassoul were at the Lebanese American University - LAU to formally announce an endowed scholarship and deliver a lecture on the global economy - reaffirming his commitment to the city where he was born and where he spent his last years which he said 'I left to Geneva to pursue my career but Beirut will always be my first home". He held extravagant events and dinner parties in Beirut over the last several years with prominent members of Lebanese society as well as from the Jewish community in Beirut (lots of images and videos on google for those who are interested)

Lebanese American University - LAU added 14 new photos to the album: LAU Honors Edgar and Daniele De Picciotto — with Nassib Nasr.

Mr. Edgar De Picciotto, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Union Bancaire Privée” along with his wife Daniele, attended the inauguration ceremon...y that was held on their honor at the Lebanese American University (LAU).
The De Picciottos have recently established a Scholarship Endowment Fund to provide financial assistance to deserving LAU students majoring in banking and finance and for this, they offered the banking and finance department at LAU the amount of five hundred thousand US Dollars.
To Mr. & Mrs. De Picciotto, Dr. Joseph G. Jabbra, President of the Lebanese American University (LAU); Mr. Nassib Nasr, Assistant Vice President for Development; Dr. Said Elfakhani, Dean – School of Business; Dr. Christian Oussi, Executive Director of Relation and Media, in addition to LAU Faculty and Staff, attended the inauguration ceremony that took place in the Department of Banking and Finance at the Business School in Beirut Campus.
LAU President Dr. Joseph G. Jabbra opened the inauguration ceremony by delivering a speech emphasizing on the significance and the symbol of the gift of giving and by highlighting on the educational and professional path of Mr. De Picciotto and how he discovered that finance was his passion and he started majoring in it after having completed two degrees in science. Then, in 1959, he founded his first financial company and started his considerable professional journey. “We are so honored this afternoon to have Mr. Edgar De Picciotto and his wife Daniele… on behalf of LAU, I would like to extend our most sincere appreciation for your gift of half a million dollars to go to the university to really provide the opportunity for students in banking and finance to come to LAU and get an education that is second to none”, he added.
As an act of gratitude and recognition, President Jabbra offered Mr. & Mrs. De Picciotto a commemorative shield and invited them to unveil the plaque that was specially prepared for the occasion; the plaque reads: “To Our Benefactors Edgar and Daniele De Picciotto”.
Mr. De Picciotto thanked Dr. Jabbra for his kind words and said that throughout his life he has always been enjoying doing things instead of being forced doing things. “I wish LAU every success”, he concluded.
For his part, Dr. Said Elfakhani, Dean of the School of Business also thanked Mr. & Mrs. De Picciotto for their generous gift and contribution on behalf of the banking and finance department and the School of Business and assured them that their legacy will solidify at LAU and that students will keep on remembering this precious involvement.
LAU Banking and Finance, MBA & EMBA students and alumni who attended the ceremony, where lucky enough to listen to a lecture by Mr. De Picciotto entitled” My Personal Journey in Banking and My Vision to the Future of the World Economy”, where he narrated his personal experience and enumerated his achievements throughout his professional life, in a very smooth way to an extent that he deserved the full attention of the audience. He spoke about his career, about the current and the expected economic situation and most importantly he pointed out that the Lebanese financial situation is not really bad as everybody thinks, before leaving the room for a question and answer session in which he discussed with the audience a lot of topics.
The inauguration ceremony and the lecture were followed by a reception where Mr. & Mrs. De Picciotto had side talks with their invitees as well as LAU community.
