Consider an artificial Christmas tree and add a few drops of an essential oil for the magic smell of the real one.
Please, KILL NO TREE NO MORE.

Beatriz Delgado

OUCH! It's that time of the year again... Beautiful young dead trees everywhere. Why? Is there a better application for plastic than a "fake" Christmas tree? Ad...d a few drops of the essential oil of your choice and that's it. We saved 9 trees so far. There are traditions and traditions. We can adapt certain traditions to the here and now, don't you think? Please!
Did our grandparents ever use plastic spoons? Didn't we kill the traditional tableware in our gatherings, parties and events? The list is endless...

My choice for my children co-sleeping friends: Nanchen dolls.

We love these stuffed dolls and animals. These are the only ones I found which are made of organic cotton in the outside while stuffed with pure new wool in the inside. Wool has wonderful characteristics, among them: dust mites don't like wool, therefore wool is hypoallergenic, and it's also mildew resistant and has natural anti-microbial properties to name a few.
I got these in the US from The Wooden Wagon: http://thewoodenwagon.com/woode…/stuffed_animals/SANA14.html
"Nanchen natur" line of Nanchen dolls. Germany family business. Absolutely lovely. http://www.nanchen-puppen.com/

US: The Animal Health Institute, which opposes legislative bans of certain animal medicines says: "As a result of the removal of antibiotics for growth promotion in Europe, many European countries have documented a significant increase in animal disease and an increase in the use of antibiotics to treat that disease. ... Europe has jeopardized animal health and has not demonstrated an improvement in human health,"....
Interesting. Hello Animal Health Institute: Denmark is part of Europe, don't use antibiotic for growth promotion at all and all other antibiotics uses require prescription. Still, continues to be the world's largest exporter of pork, and right now the US company Applegate is there learning from them.

"Denmark has completely phased out the use of antibiotics for growth promotion, and all other antibiotic uses in animals require a veterinarian’s prescription. Even with these strict rules, Denmark continues to be one of the world’s largest exporters of pork, demonstrating that policies limiting antibiotic use can benefit public health without harming the bottom line of farmers."

Save Antibiotics

Denmark, one of the world’s largest exporters of pork, is a trailblazer for policies to reduce antibiotic use on industrial farms. Our project director Laura Ro...gers is touring the country and meeting with government officials, farmers and public health experts to learn how farms have phased out the use of antibiotics for growth promotion without harming the bottom line of farmers. "Permaculture is a branch of ecological design, ecological engineering, and environmental design which develops sustainable architecture/human settlements and self-maintained agricultural systems modeled from natural ecosystems. (Wiki)

The core tenets of permaculture are:
- Take care of the earth: Provision for all life systems to continue and multiply. This is the first principle, because without a healthy earth, humans cannot flourish.
- Take care of the people: Provision f...or people to access those resources necessary for their existence.
- Share the surplus: Healthy natural systems use outputs from each element to nourish others. We humans can do the same. By governing our own needs, we can set resources aside to further the above principles." (Source: Wikipedia)

"...Big Food companies like Monsanto, Coca-Cola, ConAgra, Nestle, and Kraft, donated funds ($45M) to "No on 37" ads, engaging in lying, scare tactics, misrepresentation, and various dirty tricks to protect their profits and keep California voters uninformed about their food choices."

* No on prop.37 means transgenic food in the US is sold without any labeling, we simply don't know if a food product or produce is transgenic (genetically modified) unless it's organic.

* Transgenics or GMOs haven't been proved safe for human consumption and they are banned, restricted or limited in most of the other countries in the world.

The food movement learned a valuable lesson in the failure of Prop 37: We can't outspend Big Food and we can't out campaign them, but we can outsmart them. Let's not wait for government to cut ties with Big Food. Let's cut those ties ourselves

These companies have put big money ($45M) to defeat Prop.37 in California, which was about labeling of transgenic (GMOs) food. And they won. So they can keep hiding transgenic ingredients in their products.... In the US only... GMOs are banned for ex. in all Europe (and many more countries). In those countries they use other ingredients...!

Look carefully at the brands who admit you have the right to know what's in your food and those who think, and pay for making you think, that you better don't know what's in your food... Today in California they are voting Prop.37 about this right to know...

Storm aftermath: DONATIONS and VOLUNTEERING!

Storm Tip#12: you may want to disconnect yourself the main line in your house during the storm. If you have a sump pump in the basement, it should have its own back up battery to work without electricity. If there's risk of flash flooding you'll be safer with the main line disconnected. Something to evaluate. Don't mess with water and electricity combined ever! Inside the house and during a storm, always disconnect all the electrical devices from the wall. It's not enough to turn them off.
