On Oct. 17th, BLM Austin and community members went to RRPD to address the brutality a RR high school student experienced at the hands of RR PO Rigo Valles. Since RRPD didn't want to address the community who took the time to come to them, we created this message in response. We, as your community, are here to tell you how we feel about allowing Officer Rigo Valles to choke and slam our child to the ground unnecessarily! Claiming that this action was justified. Claiming that this SRO was deescalating the situation. Clearly NOT! We hold you and RRISD accountable. We need a resolution. We request Officer Rigo Valles to be fired immediately. We don't need officers in schools monitoring behavior. We need a systemic change to disciplinary procedures. We speak against punitive carceral discipline against black youth! From Spring Valley High School in South Carolina to Round Rock ISD, we say STOP brutalizing and criminalizing our children! Take the police out of our schools!
