My absolute most favourite restaurant ever! When I use to work on the ferry I would go every chance I got and always brought someone new with me to try it becau...se I knew they would fall in love too. I would risk my job by sneaking off the boat to come get a take out order for lunch and rush back aboard and sneak back to my room to eat it lol. It's so good that I have waited in the porch for a table for over a half hour a few times and would not leave till I got my fix. I don't get to come by as much as I like to anymore because I transferred to a shore job in Newfoundland but I still come over a couple times a year to go shopping and I don't get back on that boat till I get some Black Spoon in my belly! The first thing I need to say is that I did not receive a black spoon with my seafood chowder and that was slightly disappointing. The rest of my experience was... much better though. I chose the Blackened Salmon Wrap and Seafood Chowder. The Blackened Salmon was tasty and the wrap did not fall apart (unlike every wrap I make at home!). The chowder must have had whipping cream in it because that thing was rich. It was so yummy I was enjoying the potatoes in there just about as much as the scallops, shrimp, and lobster. To top it off, the chowder came with four mussels in it. What a treat when you're coming indoors from a pretty blustery nor'-easter. To end this eating session some dessert was in order. The Peppered Strawberries and Salted Caramel Crunch Cake were chosen (yes two desserts, I was with others). I've never had peppered strawberries before and they were delicious. I detected flavours of strawberries with hints of pepper. On a completely unrelated note, I had boiled icing the other day at my Nanny's 95th birthday party and it was great too (so many things to try out east!). Back to dessert, the other one was good too. There isn't enough room on this page for me to tell you how great the food & service is so I'll just say that was the best blueberry cheesecake I've ever had in my whole life. Ever. Keep up the great work.

This place NEVER disappoints (and I have been there my fair share). The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff are wonderful and the food is amazing!! I recommend The Black Spoon to anyone who asks!

I live in Ontario but I'm from Nova Scotia and when I'm home there is at least one visit to the black spoon with my daughters. I don't eat meat or dairy but they do have options for me and so grateful they do. Thank you Black Spoon for being so versatile and making great food.

Best food on the island!! Staff are amazing and so pleasant. The owners always make a point of making everyone feel at home and put their heart and soul into the food they serve!! A must visit restaurant!!

Inside is nice and updated. Food is OK... service was just par. .. I had the feature bbqued salmon it came with garlic mashed potatoes and shredded vegetables u...nder the samon.... the samon was cooked just perfect but the potatoes had hardly even a taste of garlic for something called garlic mashed and the portion size of the potatoes could have been more to help fill a feller up..... Wil had the cream of mushroom soup and he enjoyed it he said.... Beccas penne Alfredo pasta didn't have any flavor on the sauce except for the really good fresh parmasan. ....and we had the stuffed mushrooms for an apatizer. .. (that was tasty....) but I still left wanting more ..
I hate leaving a restaurant after paying 50 bucks for a meal and still wanting something else

It was OK. ... but not what I had expected Goin in as I was told it was very very good.... maybe I'll have a better experience next time... عرض المزيد

The Black Spoon is the most fabulous place to dine whether it's lunch or dinner the food is always fresh and delicious. The staff are amazing and make you feel at home and the decor is beautiful. It is my absolute favourite spot to dine.

Loved the Black Spoon. The food was great as was the service. The decor in the restaurant was very nice and the Christmas 🎄 decorations were sweet. And it was spotless and warm, very cosy. All and all I would say they are doing everything right!

Tried for the first time, portions were perfect size, prices reasonable & exceptional service. I will be a returning customer. Highly recommend this restaurant & the seafood chowder.

Hey folks, just doing some planning for a teen and 5+ cooking workshops for March break, let's us know what you think and if you would be interested, also this could lead into some adult cooking workshops or demos at the same time if enough interest is out there.
We will post the price, dates and details once things are determined.

Just a couple heads ups, hahaha, we will be doing some cookery of things tomorrow at the spoon normally we do take the day off but changing things up this year, also Saturday Feb 25th will be our last day open...............................
Till April 3rd, taking a break, doing some new menus some kitchen fixing uppin and probably some paint touching uppin in the dining room. Hope to see you all in April.

Suffering from back ache related to snow shovelling? The only cure we can think of is today's trio.

Loaded baked potato soup, garden salad and half of a Cajun steak and Swiss panini with sautéed peppers and onions. Yum! $10
