This dad deserves a father of the year award! What a fun play space for this lucky girl.

This girl may be too young to compete on "American Ninja Warrior" but that didn't stop her!

We're lucky to have so many babies running around our lives here at Kopila. Basanti is one of the amazing aunties in our home (she's the best cook ever!) and her son just turned 4 months old. It's Nepali tradition to celebrate this milestone with a "bhaat kaane" ceremony. Baby C ate rice for the first time. He slept through his entire ceremony, but we had fun celebrating baby and two of the best parents in the world.
This time of year can be tough for a lot of people living in developing Nepal. There is no indoor heating or warm water, and the thin walls offer little protection from the winter temperatures. On an evening walk up the road, we ran into our neighbor who is all bundled up and bright eyes and smiles this afternoon!

This is so cute! The world needs more fathers like this one.
"Having a male role model is important to teach them how men should be in their lives. All girls need that support form a male figure."

Part 3 of 3: "One day we walked silently for half of a day. We weren't allowed to talk to anyone. That was the hardest part of the whole trek. It made us reflect on our lives. During the trek, we got to know our own qualities. We made plans and set goals, and even made a five-year plan for ourselves. We built trust within ourselves and others by having an open heart and a positive mind." - B on his Quest Trek experience with Mountain Child Care
On Sunday, February 4, 2018, Maggie gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Join us in welcoming the newest member of our family!

Part 2 of 3: "The trek was awesome. We hiked through the Helambu region in Nepal and saw beautiful mountains. We met other kids from different children's homes in Nepal. We made a lot of great friends. Every day, we hiked and did activities that allowed us to learn about ourselves and connect with others." - N on his Quest Trek experience with Mountain Child Care
Part 1 of 3: Three of our Kopila Valley young adults recently had the opportunity of a lifetime to go a week-long trek in the Himalayas and see the snow-capped mountains of the tallest range in the world. They went with an organization called Mountain Child Care, which takes teenagers living in children's homes across Nepal on treks as a way to discover more about themselves and their potential. When these young adults know how much they are capable of achieving and what their talents are, they are better prepared to lift themselves, their families, and their communities out of poverty. Stay tuned for the highlights of their trip in the next two posts!
Heads, shoulders, knees and toes! Do you remember learning this song in school? Here is our nursery class practicing their English and singing in the school yard!

We have had so much to celebrate here at Kopila this week! Our first ever boys handball team came in 2nd place in the championship of all the schools in Surkhet (sadly, they lost 19-2 in the final match...) and they received a big shout out at morning assembly. We also welcomed an inspiring guest speaker, Dibyaraj Khadka, who is a local hero from our very own neighborhood! He talked about how being in an accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down transformed his lif...e and taught him how to overcome life-changing challenges. He has managed to remain positive amidst diversity and is now speaking about disability rights and challenges in Nepal. What a good lesson for all of us - unexpected life events can cause huge changes of plans (and that's okay). The kids asked a stream of questions for almost an hour after his talk.
See More#Throwback to 9 years ago when Doritos featured Maggie and the Kopila Valley story on the Cool Ranch bags! How's that for a midnight snack?! At the time, we had 24 children - since then, that number has more than doubled! We're forever grateful for our ever-growing family and the support we've received from every corner of the world.
Throwback Thursday! Remember a few years ago when we were featured on the back of a bag of cool ranch Doritos, thanks to Do Something? Or, as I like to call it, the time all my friends gained ten pounds! #tbt

These are two of our favorite people in the entire world. Sachyam and Aakriti are the caregivers in our children's home but are really much more than that. They are the loving hug at the end of a hard day, the goodnight story and tuck-in, the comfort of warm soup for a sick kid and a million things in between. For the past two years, they have dedicated their lives to caring for our 50 children. They love them with their whole hearts and are raising our children to be kind, well-behaved, and healthy. We are so grateful. Join us in congratulating Sachyam and Aakriti on their two year BlinkNow anniversary!
A beautiful story that shows how everyone has the power to inspire others.

This young man's life almost ended tragically. Today, he lives to serve, helping young people escape violence by finding themselves.
Did you know that women in Nepal are hit by malnutrition and poverty the hardest? They have half the literacy rate of their male counterparts. Physical and emotional abuse against women is common.
When a woman is educated and empowered, she is better able to support herself and her family. Her children are more likely to be well-fed, educated and healthy.
The Women's Center is a place for women to seek the support and training they need to improve the lives of themselves an...d their children. It's full of Kopila magic!
