My encouragement for new artists:

The music business has been going through so many major changes as technology continues to grow. It use to be an ultimate goal for an artist was move to Nashville sign with a major record company and have... hit record's playing on the radio to become successful. Today the social media is rapidly replacing radio as the outlet for singers and groups to get their music heard and become known. Another key point is the importance of Web Sites, iTunes and Amazon providing artists the opportunity to make their music available for purchase world wide on their own record label. As for my personal experience downloads are by far outselling hard copy CD's.
In my opinion record company's will be breaking fewer new artist as radio listeners and record sales from radio airplay continue to decline. I can see Internet radio becoming a major music source in the future.
I am impressed with so many good new artists springing up here in the greater Cincinnati area as more and more night clubs are featuring live music. This is a good thing for all involved and social media promotion is the key to make it all work. The better artist and groups work their base through social media the better following they achieve and the more often the club owners will book them back.
Play your music from your heart and not the way trends are going and your audience will more likely connect and grow.
