Their are not many things that will make me miss an epic powder day in the mountains but a chance to photograph Canada's National Biathlon Team on one of the most picturesque ranges in the world is definitely one of them! This time lapse was taken Monday morning at the Canmore Nordic Centre.

As usual, the most beautiful wildflowers you will find around Assiniboine in the summer months are the lodge's staff. Great to see the Park back open with clear skies and perfect conditions!

Pretty special to have the opportunity to work with and photograph Canada's next generation of up and coming Olympians. Amazing to watch the level of training these athletes endure on a day to day basis. All the best on the road to 2018 and beyond!

Always a good time working with some of Canada's top athletes. The National Biathlon Team was looking in great early season form during last weeks time trials at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Looking forward to getting out with them again all this week during the Frozen Thunder races.

The last helicopter full of guests leaves Mt. Assiniboine Lodge to close out another great season. One of the best parties I have been to all year commenced in front of the lodge as this photo was taken. Already looking forward to spending another Fall in this amazing place next year!

The French have a powerful saying for falling in love at first sight "Coupe De Foudre". It translates into English as being struck by a bolt of lightning. This was the feeling that I had the first time I laid eyes on Mt. Assiniboine Lodge from the front seat of a helicopter 6 years ago.

I had just started working my first photography job at Alpine Helicopter's base in Canmore. The pilot that I was working with that day was also from the East Coast. I had only been living in t...he Rockies for about a year and with so much beauty to take in and so many things to do and see I had yet to make it back to this fabled area. I will never forget the first time that I did.... We were flying laps around the glaciers and icefields on the East side of Assiniboine, out of sight from the Lodge and famous hiking trails that have attracted generations of people from all over the world to come and explore.
I will always remember when the pilot asked me if I had ever been over to that side, I said no and his reply was to smile and pull a sharp banking turn and straight line it for the glacier flowing out over the mountain leading to the side I would soon find myself captivated by for years to come...
It was a quick fleeting glimpse of an area so beautiful that I had a hard time believing what I was seeing. I do not even think I really even took any photographs, I was too captivated by the stunning scenery below to even make the small effort required to push the shutter on my camera. Before I knew it we were banking back over the same glacier that we made our approach over and heading back to Canmore. Ten minutes later we were back on the ground and I was shaking my head and swearing under my breath at what I had just witnessed.
Ever since that day I have been in love with Mt. Assiniboine and the trails surrounding the mountain. I have been extremely fortunate to make several trips back to this area that I love so much, Including being hosted (and extremely well fed) by the lodge this Fall for 19 days. I thought that would be enough to at least scratch the surface, little did I know that every trail I walked would inspire me to explore 20 more. Not hard to see why some people that I know have spent the better part of their lives there and keep going back for more...

This Thanksgiving I am extremely thankful for all of the amazing family and friends that I have in my life. Some I do not see or speak to very often, maybe even for years at a time but you always know who your real friends are when you can spend time apart and pick up right where you left off... Even if I forget to call or don't keep in the best of touch, I still think about all of my friends and family back home in the East a lot.... I miss you all and hope you are having a great long weekend!

It is hard to get any sleep around Mt. Assiniboine... The little orange light is the lodge off in the distance.

It is not every day you get to help someone celebrate their 100th birthday... Here is a set of photos that I took of Richard last year on his 99th hiking up the Nublit. It was an honor to accompany him on the same hike this year. I will post some updated photos later today. Happy Birthday Richard!

I tend to agree with a very wise woman who works at Assiniboine Lodge that thinks people should spend their time here enjoying the outdoors and company of others, not buried in laptops processing photos. I will continue adding images to this album while here but only a few of my favorites at a time. The bulk of images will have to wait until I return home. I am to busy taking new ones to even look at what is on my camera most of the time.

My two favorite things in the Canadian Rockies - Mt. Assiniboine Lodge & Alpine Helicopters. Taken today from the middle of Lake Magog in my kayak.

Quite possibly the best way to retrieve your gear from the campground at Mt. Assiniboine Lodge ! Spent an awesome afternoon kayaking around Lake Magog and opened up a whole new world of photo angles that I am looking forward to capturing over the coming weeks. Big thank you to Andre and Claude for trusting me enough to fly my boat in.
