MIMI FARIÑA’S NEW CD!
There’s reason to celebrate… and… sigh! Wonderful Mimi Fariña recordings of love and support from 1988 have been uncovered, Mimi’s gift to our older selves from our younger selves 29 years later!
The compact disc “Mimi Fariña with Lowell Levinger (Banana from the Youngbloods) Live in Germany” has been released. They originate from long forgotten but recently found high quality tapes recorded February 2, 1988 at Bochum, Germany while she was on tour. Sale...s of the CD benefit Bread and Roses, an agency our producer helped Mimi start in his capacity as the director of the Agape Foundation. She was always an ardent and generous supporter of nonviolent projects and in this instance we were able to help her help others. Bread and Roses provides live entertainment to institutionalized populations, such as prisoners and nursing home residents.
In this recording her voice is at the top of its game, vibrant, beautifully dancing up and down scales with passionate resonance. Through the lyrics she chose and the joy and lamentation with which she sang these 15 songs, we experience the quintessential Mimi, powerful but elfishly resilient, effervescent but sometimes droll and very prone to laughter, all the while remembering those who had been forgotten. And don’t forget the entertaining element of drama! She was an actor in the Mime Troup!
If you ever knew or loved Mimi, like I did, or just crave buoyance and beauty, I encourage you to enjoy this CD. It’s Mimi’s message of love and support to our older selves from our younger selves 29 years later!
