"With a visit to a patient I have not met before, I often introduce myself with: "Hi, I'm Chaplain Jim and I work with the CORE Center. I'm just stopping by to... say hello and see how you're doing."
I give them a chance to say what is going on, what they are dealing with, etc., and try to build a bit of relationship. At some point I might ask something like: "Do you have a faith that you draw upon, or a belief in God that helps you when you are dealing with something like this?" Their answer to this admits me into a part of their life they might not often share, and also gives me an idea as to whether offering prayer might be in order, and if so, what form that might take."

Great news! - HIV infections for African Americans in Illinois have been cut in half from 2000 - 2015. But, there are issues to be addressed since more Black men specifically gay men and women are diagnosed with and die from HIV/AIDS. Let's get going Illinois with the Getting to Zero campaign that will help tackle this disparity. Want more info about this campaign? Please contact Sara at email@example.com
