For our fourth Meet the Staff Monday, we are happy to re-introduce Jenna Hasskarl, our Senior Operations Coordinator here who runs the Arrivals Hotel in June!
Q: Which camp did you go to? A: Camp Calumet Lutheran (Yes! That’s right, if you read Kathy’s Q&A last week, we worked at camp together!)
Q: What is your favorite camp activity? A: I was Swimming Department Head and Waterfront Director… so obviously my favorite activities are doing anything on the lake!
Q: What’s your... favorite part about what we do here at Camp America/AIFS? A: Helping people from all over the world get to experience camp and travel the world. Camp and studying abroad truly changed my life and I wouldn’t be here today without those two important experiences.
Q: What is your funniest/most embarrassing travel story abroad? A: I got kicked out of the Accademia Gallery in Florence, Italy where the David statue is housed. As we entered the room, the guard was super mad at other tourists for taking pictures, specifically with a flash on, so I tried to hurriedly take a stealth picture, thinking my flash was off… and it wasn’t. It was the last straw for the guard that day and he started screaming at me in Italian and English, so out I went! I was with my study abroad school group, so I snuck back in when the guards rotated stations because I feared being left behind by the group! I am a major rule follower so this was especially embarrassing for me!
We are hiring for our 2018 Arrivals Hotel season! Do you have anyone unable to return to camp, but still looking for something for part of the summer season? We are looking for friendly, hard-working, and camp-minded people who don't have to be local - we can house them in our Fairfield, NJ location. Any questions, send us a message!
Today, for our third installment of Meet the Staff Monday, we present Senior Account Representative Allyson Schiano who is also celebrating her EIGHT YEAR Camp Ameriversary today!!! Thank you, Allyson, for your dedication, unwavering support of our mission and positivity. Cheers to many more!

Q: What is your favorite camp activity? A: Waterskiing and tetherball
Q: What’s your favorite part about what we do h...ere at Camp America/AIFS? A: I love hearing from applicants that camp was so moving that they went home in the fall and changed their course of study to either work with kids or special needs.
Q: What is your favorite city abroad and why? Whitsunday Islands, Australia. A: It’s so breathtakingly beautiful it’s hard to believe it actually exists.
Today is National Day of Unplugging! Something that we LOVE about summer camp is that it gives campers and staff the ability to unplug from the world (even if it may just be for a few hours). Take a look at this awesome link to learn more about it!
If you're looking for advice or more resources from your fellow camp directors look no further Camp Minder has done the work for you with this awesome list!

Q: What is your favorite camp activity? A: I could usually be found in the dark room of the photo department.

Q: What city abroad is next on your list to visit and why? A: In 2019 I want to go to Reykjavik, Iceland to experience the geothermal pools and hopefully spot a polar bear in the wild.

Q: Which camp did you go to? A: YMCA Camp Hubinger
Q: What is your favorite camp activity? A: Campfire songs. The sillier the better!
Q: What is your favorite part about what we do here at Camp America/AIFS? A: Saving a participant’s ...summer with a rematch to a new camp, especially when the camp believes in second chances.
Q: Whats your funniest/most embarrassing travel story abroad? A: On a formal business trip to London I brought the blazer from one suit and the trousers from another. Also the tie didn’t match the shirt. I looked so like a clown.
We love it! Thank you, Dennis!
