What a beautiful day to celebrate #CapeArts ! The 2016 Cape Girardeau Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition opens tonight with the unveiling of 7 new pieces.

Stop by The Vasterling Suites Courtyard at 6 pm for wine, courtesy of Major Brands Cape Girardeau and to hear a few words from program partners and our wonderful Mayor, Harry Rediger.

The 2015 Cape Girardeau Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit

Bounnak Thammavong is a regional artist who emigrated from Laos and who lives and works in Swisher, Iow...a. His artwork is conceptually inspired by nature and literature view through the lens of his Asian-American heritage. Bounnak’s specialties include hand painted portraits and large scale public art; where the processes and media of his work often varies from highly traditional to industrially modern. Bounnak’s current work includes the use of 3D CAD design and 3D rapid prototyping as a major portion of the conceptual process.
His art has been on display in public exhibitions throughout the Midwest, such as “Art on the River” (Dubuque Iowa), “Downtown Annual Sculpture Exhibition” (Lawrence KS). Bounnak’s custom commissioned work is in several public and private collections including: The Lutheran Services of Iowa (Waverly); The University of Madison Wisconsin (Gordon Commons), The City of Coralville Iowa; The City of Topeka Kansas.
