Dear CJHF supporters,

We are excited to tell you about a new AmazonSmile promotion that launches today. Amazon is tripling the donation amount to 1.5% when customers make their first eligible purchase from March 12 - 31. This is a great opportunity to increase Captain Joseph House Foundation AmazonSmile donations by reminding our supporters that shopping on AmazonSmile supports our Gold Star Veteran Families.

Simply go to today, March 12 thro...ugh March 31 and select Captain Joseph House Foundation as your charity to support. AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon with the same products, prices, and shopping features as Amazon. The difference is that when you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will typically donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice. Please make your purchases from March 12-31 to triple the donation amount to CJHF.

Thank you for your continued support!

We had a surprise visitor last week! Rick McKenzie from James and Associates, a local property management company in Port Angeles, came by the house and began playing his pipes in honor of Gold Star Families and all of those working on this project. No one knew he was coming, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house when he left. Beautiful!
Celebrating Independence Day and honoring the many of the men and women who have served our country. Thanks to Dan and Grace Kaufman who made arrangements for us to carry the Fallen Hero Project Banners in the Port Angeles July 4th Parade! Thank you all who came and honored the Fallen and their Gold Star Families by participating. Special thanks to the American Legion Riders who joined us again this year. We also had ten cyclists from New York and New Jersey who came to ride Hurricane Ridge and ended up joining us and carrying banners! Bike Garage -RideforJoe team joined us as well!

Tony Award Nominee about personal relationships and global social issues. Two journalists who spend years in a war zone in Iraq return bruised and emotionally beaten to a world of change. Time zips by in scenes that include confrontations, secrets revealed and a push-pull look at the roads people take in search of happiness and fulfillment.

The family of Frank E. Speck came to visit today, to learn more about our mission and to tour Captain Joseph House. Kyle Johnson, Marine Veteran, and his family came with arms full of hugs and a generous gift ($7,000) for Captain Joseph House in memory of Grandfather Frank.
Thanks to this military family for their commitment to remembering our country's Gold Star Veteran Families. Gold Star Kids have been invited to visit the kids in this photo where they have pet goats and donkeys that live on their farm!

One could hear the sounds of drills, saws, hammering and shoveling of dirt throughout the neighborhood today. A crew (12) of men and women from our Coast Guard Station and our Wednesday-Thursday crew (10) worked on a number of projects on Captain Joseph House. We had volunteers working on the SW deck on the second floor, laying subfloor for the bathroom floor tiles, pulling up old flooring in the library before the Fir floors are replaced and filling in the water line trench on the north side of the House. And of course, time for pizza mid-way through the day! Hearty thanks to all of you for your muscle and enthusiasm!

Wood for the 2nd floor deck, overlooking Hurricane Ridge, arrives for Thursday's work crew!

Just in time to weather a windy and rainy day! The new roof has been completed over the Activity and Craft Room by Earth Tech Roofing. Next step is the outdoor deck that will be built over this roof...a southwest exposure facing Hurricane Ridge. Great place for families to gather around picnic tables, talk, read or recline in a lawn chair for a nap!

Banners hanging behind Nancy (Navy) and David (Army), Pam and sister Jenny in the middle with friends Tim and John and adopted daughters Emily and Chloe are pictured here when they participated in the Veteran's Day Parade (Virginia City) and represented Captain Joseph House at the day's event. The family attends Veteran events throughout the community and sets up a booth to provide information about respite opportunity for Gold Star Veteran Families. Our thanks to Julie Hatch, from Sound Community Bank for presenting their Community Sponsorship for Remembering Our Fallen Traveling National Monument event held in December. These Tribute Towers will probably come to another site in Washington again sometime next year; a powerful statement of the cost of our Freedom.
