I research real estate-related things on a daily basis and use Google Earth as just one component of that research. Today, I was looking at a subdivision to evaluate possible hail damage from a 2015 storm. WOW! Most of the homes surrounding the home I was researching obviously have new roofs. The homes that don't have new roofs may be owned by unaware property owners, or people who terminated their Home Owners Insurance when they paid off their mortgage. Even if you own your home, ALWAYS keep insurance in place.

Automated Real Estate Valuations should be Banned from ALL websites. The valuations can be very misleading for both buyers and sellers. Additionally, they seem to imply the website is playing "Appraiser". I advise customers in the Las Cruces market that you can have two 3,000 sq ft homes, built the same year, that are side-by-side on the same street... One home might be worth in the $300-$350,000 range and the other might be worth well in excess of $500,000 depending on condition, amenities and who built it. They may be in the same neighborhood, but not necessarily the same value. It's kinda like parking a Corvette next to a Lamborghini Countach in the same garage. They might be in the same "Neighborhood", but I wouldn't expect to buy the Countach at a Corvette price. ....Boycott Zillow!

Exterior cracks in the stucco on walls, parapets and around windows are also something to be monitored. Any breach of the exterior envelope of a home exposes it to potential water damage when the rainy season arrives. Water is probably the #1 most destructive factor for a home. Fire is probably worse in a specific instance, but water is most common.
Do you have a fireplace? Where do you store your firewood? On the ground, against the house is a very bad plan, as it is an invitation to Termites. If you have a fireplace, store the firewood on an elevated surface away from the house.
If you own a home but do not maintain it, it could potentially depreciate during your ownership.
Past customers have been very satisfied with my services overall. I find it interesting, but not surprising that the only score less than 4 out of 5 stars is due sellers who weren't completely satisfied with the selling price of their home. I'm not surprised and I don't blame them. These folks were selling after the real estate market collapsed and they lost a lot of equity in their homes, but I had no control over that.

I have been saying that Zillow is an unreliable source of information for many years. They have a 1.7 out of 5 rating and I feel that is higher than it should be.
