My youngest (4) counting to sixteen. I don't recommend using this video as an argument for #homeschooling.
After a couple months of reading the same story over and over and over and over...she makes my job easier and reads her own bedtime story.
Some fun Ginger action today. When we lived in the woods, we'd dress her in an orange vest to keep her from getting shot because she looked so much like a deer loping in the snow. She wasn't quite so graceful today.

Newsletter just went out. If you're not on my list, you can check it out, here. books are involved!

Life has really gotten in the way of my plans, this year. I can tell you that I have three, fully completed cowboy novels ready to be released next Summer, Fall, and Winter. It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents' house. If I’d known then what I do now, would I have kept on walking? Manning was older, darker, experienced—and I’d trusted him when he said the story would only ever be about us. I’d held those words close and challenged fate, but I had lost.

A part of me is still that sixteen-year-old girl squinting up at Manning, but no matter how far I fall or high I soar, I’ll always be a bird without her bear and nothing without him.

When I close my eyes, I can no longer see her. The decisions I made were to push Lake in the right direction—away from me. But now that she’s gone, would I have made those same choices?

I’d walked away like I was supposed to. I’d kept my distance. I’d bent over backward to keep Lake pure, but she’s no longer that girl, and I don’t know if I can stay away anymore. I only know I don’t want to. She’s still everything I want and nothing I should ever have, but if anyone can move the stars, it’s her great bear in the sky.

All the #metoo statuses are somehow both heartbreaking and inspiring. By shining light in dark places, you all are making the world a safer place. Thank you to everyone who has been brave enough to share their stories.

I just wrote this. Have no idea if it will make the cut, but I'm a little drunk and found it amusing, so I thought I'd share.

“I mean, we can go back to my house and watch a movie or something. But, I’m not, you know, sleeping with you tonight.” She glanced up to check his reaction. Just as she’d feared. Crestfallen. Not exactly devastated, but certainly disappointed.
“Why not?” he asked....
For some reason, the way he asked it made her laugh. “Because. This is a first date. Right?”
“Yeah. I guess.”
“I want a second date. And a third. And my momma always told me something about cows and giving away milk and don’t sleep with a guy on the first date.”

Welcome to the island.
This is no fantasy.

You’ll face fears.
You’ll face travesty.
You’ll face yourself.

One deserted island.
Two heinous crimes.
Two convicted hearts.

When decent people do bad things,
there’s only one place for forgiveness:
Redemption Island.
The island knows what you’ve done.

I have a cousin who this could be his theme song. I mean, it's just a party song, but it makes me think so much of that cousin and all the good times we have because he opens his door and offers to fix us a drink. Then he stands there while you take the first sip and asks how you like it. "Too strong? Too sweet? Want another? How about a shot?"

Who's the drink-fixer in your life?

At Her Own Risk
Release Day: August 14
That’s all it was supposed to be. No strings attached, no feelings, no heartache.
But if I thought Sean Riley would be content having only parts of me, I was dead wrong. His persistence wore me down and I found myself in the one situation I was trying to avoid.
Little does he know a life with me will lead to nothing but disappointment and heartbreak. He’s a good man and deserves everything I can’t give him. Not because I don’t want to, but because I’m unable.
Pushing him away in the beginning was to protect me, now I’m trying to protect him as I gear up for the fight of my life.
A fight I could lose.
Getting into a relationship was my risk, but as things get worse, I’m not the only one who will have something to lose.
I just hope it’s worth it.

This is HILARIOUS! If you're a writer or friends with a writer, you gotta read this.

Charlotte would do well in a home where she receives three square meals every day. Joshua is up to date on all his shots.

Some really great advice. I think we hold ourselves in and self-censor almost by instinct, for self-preservation; it's good to be reminded that it's okay to take up space and be you.

Feminist leaders at the Haas Institute’s 2017 Othering & Belonging Conference were asked what advice they would give to their younger selves. These are their answers.

● And this kitschy cowgirl fridge magnet.

Just comment. Maybe tell me about a time you had to drastically change your life or reinvent yourself--I could use the encouragement. Or just say hi
