I am confident this will be one possibly the number one attraction in New Mexico when completed. This is simply a fantastic project and long overdue.

The state of New Mexico needs to support this effort to bring back one of the state's icons of railroading history. The Harvey Girls who worked here helped to civilize the West by marrying those cowb...oys, oil men and railroaders who would otherwise still be poking each other in the eyes with sharp sticks! We can't wait for the Castaneda to be brought back to her former glory. My grandmother, Olga Berg Lamb, was a Harvey Girl there from 1928 to about 1930 before she transferred to Belen. My husband and ...I just returned from taking a private tour with Kathy Hendrickson of Southwest Detours. See More

I would like to know why my family back in the day gave it their name ? Was the owner a Castaneda ? Because our original name is de la Castaneda.

Visited this charming area 8 years ago and loved it's appeal. The Castaneda Hotel was vacant at the time, but majestic nonetheless. We plan on retiring to this area within 3 years and hope to stay at ...this historic Hotel! See More

Kiss a Ghost?? The Castaneda Hotel will be featured during the Tour with Ghost Stories! Don't Miss It! The Ghost Paranormal Investigators will be here to show you how they investigate a haunted building 👻👻👻
A climb up through the south attic roof which has been opened to accommodate the new elevator shaft. A view of the Castaneda tower and the pressed tin roof is found at the top of the ladder.
A walk along Castaneda's arcade roof toward the central tower. The area below the tower where Allan is standing will soon have a viewing balcony so that visitors can view the central courtyard.
A walk up from the Castaneda basement below the south wing. A new steel deck has just been added to complete the ceiling for the basement access roof. You will also notice the standpipe system for the new fire sprinklers as I walk out of the basement entrance. Outside of the building the crew is working on tamping down the sand for the restored arcade walkway.

Allan discusses the various stages of prep work that go into getting the finished plaster walls in the Castaneda. This video was taken in the south wing upstairs guest room hallway.

The attic above the south wing of the Castaneda. In this image Allan is describing how the elevator will take visitors up to the attic, how they will cross a "sky bridge" above the south wing skylight space, and how the large attic room above the center of the hotel will be used for a Fred Harvey Museum.
