"We were listening to a lot of Kendrick Lamar," says producer Tony Visconti. "The goal was to avoid rock & roll"

Hi Cat People friends—
We want to clear up a few things.

We'd heard that the word on the street is that we were fired from our own band.

In reality, Cat People went on hiatus, starting in July, a decision made with the clear understanding that we’d resume in about 6 months.

Recently, we stumbled onto the fact that three band members have started their own Bowie band, without engaging in any discussion with us, the founders who had brought them onboard.

Keeping in mind that we started this project 4 years ago, we want to share more regarding these developments.

When we formed our most recent lineup, about 2 years ago, responsibility for creating a shared account for all Cat People content (gig recordings, band photos, etc.) was entrusted to a fellow band member.

We recently discovered that we had been locked out of this account. When we asked why, we were given only partial access to the account (as a response), and we were provided no further explanation. When we insisted on full access, we were informed that these three (past band members) were using Cat People’s files to create their own band. We were then “granted” access to our files — for 60 days.

Speaking as co-founders of Cat People, we would comment that our project predates our most recent lineup of musicians, by about two years; it thereby makes these recent events even more disappointing. That being said, Alvin and the remaining members are truly looking forward to reinventing a next-level Cat People lineup.

We are very, very curious.

David Bowie has written a number of new "classics" about love and violence for his forthcoming stage show, its director reveals.
