Dr. Kellar, is an excellent vet and surgeon. The only pet that I had, nobody co...uld handle was Spice, but Dr. Kellar, and his other staff, worked around that, and still looked after Spice, until the day he had to be put down.
If anyone can handle that cat, then they have to be good. Missy, and Taco-Timmy
Friday ended the week with more presents for our Vet Assistants. It was a pleasure to see the smiles on their faces. One of the best things you can do is tell someone they are appreciated and valued and we definitely felt that this week. Happy long weekend Ashley, Karly, Monique and Barb!!
Watch Dr Matyas and Phebe demonstrating the proper way to brush your pet teeth. The time you commit to this training process can make a significant improvement in your pets oral health. It can have a great impact on the quality of their life.
Ask one of our team members for additional hints and a toothbrush to start practicing/training.
Thank you Phebe for being such a good sport! Happy brushing everyone! 😁😁😁
Cataraqui Pet Hospital will be open regular hours Friday and Saturday. Then we will be closed until Tuesday February 20th at 8AM. Monday is Family Day and we will be closed. We hope everyone enjoys their time with their two legged and four legged family members this weekend!

🐾 Happy Veterinary Assistant week to our Barb!! 🐾
Barb has been with Cataraqui Pet Centre for over 3 years. She has many roles in the clinic and in the pet centre. You could find her working at Urban Paws discussing nutrition with customers/clients. You will see her at the clinic talking to clients and discussing patient care with them. Barb is also our practice manager. She helps support the staff and our clients daily.
Barb loves working with animals (especially fuzzy one...s) and her passion for them always shines through. She will consistently go the extra mile to help an animal, a coworker or a client in need. Barbs dedication and her compassion is something the staff counts on everyday.
We appreciate all your hard work Barb. Thank you for all that you do for us and for the patients we all care for. We hope you have a great week and stay tuned for more surprises for you on the way. 😻
Karly Theriault has been with Cataraqui Pet Hospital over 2 years as well as a Veterinary Assistant. Karly shines when it comes to customer service. She helps clients and patients feel appreciated and more importantly heard. Karly takes time to answer questions and explain product, procedures or nutritional information to our clients. You will always see Karly with a big smile on her face and hear a genuine heartwarming laugh as she enjoys interacting with all of our wonderf...ul animals and their families. Karly is always looking to learn and grow in her knowledge of clinic procedures and animal medicine which benefits everyone. When someone enjoys their job it is obvious and we thank Karly for showing that every day. I personally appreciate her for all these qualities mentioned but also for her genuine interest in her coworkers and her ability to make us smile and laugh. Thank you for always looking for ways to improve current tasks, you never accept status quo. Karly, it is a pleasure working with you and I enjoy all our food conversations and last minute snacks and take out (lol)!! HAPPY VETERINARY APPRECIATION WEEK – I hope you enjoy this special occasion, you deserve it!
Monique Labonte has worked for Cataraqui Pet Hospital for 2 years as a Veterinary Assistant. Monique is one of the hardest working young women I know for her age. She applied herself in college and acquired a job immediately in her field. We had the opportunity to work with Monique while she was replacing a maternity leave position and we were so impressed with her skills, compassion and determination that we could not let her go, she became a permanent member of our team. M...onique is very hands on and is one of the first to assist in our treatment area with restraining animals, cutting nails, or setting up for procedures. You rarely see her sitting still; she is always working, cleaning or preparing for the next procedure or client. Monique provides us with plenty of laughs and has a unique and quirky sense of humor, which can always keep her coworkers smiling. I personally appreciate her ability to volunteer for any task, her proactivity and even more so her absolute love for animals. Monique’s little Dachshund Phebe is a regular feature in our office and her mom has trained her well. So Monique this is your week, HAPPY VETERINARY ASSISTANT WEEK – there are many fun things planned for the days ahead and you have more than earned them!
Ashley McGrath has worked for Cataraqui Pet Hospital for over 5 years as a Veterinary Assistant. This year Ashley took on the role of Lead Veterinary Assistant and oversees our software program, reminders and updating our database as well as keeping the front office running smoothly. This is no easy task in a busy clinical environment and we value her attention to detail, organization and her ability to be proactive and always look for ways to improve our service for our cli...ents and patients. You will no doubt recognize her warm smile and the compassion that she shows when you walk in the door of Cataraqui Pet Hospital. I personally appreciate that I can always count on Ashley to follow through with tasks and offer assistance to her coworkers. It is a pleasure working with such a conscientious, empathetic and caring person and I always enjoy learning from your years of experience in the animal field. So Ashley this is your week, HAPPY VET ASSISTANT APPRECIATION WEEK - enjoy some of the fun and surprises ahead, you deserve them!!

Welcome back to sweet Jude! 💜
Jude is a boxer cross who is almost 1 years old. We have had the pleasure of taking care of Jude since she was the cutest puppy. Our staff remembers her as the puppy who couldn't keep her little head out of our treat jar. 😀 Jude's head is much too big to fit in there now. She had grown up into a beautiful, happy girl who still enjoys treats!
Jude was recently in to have her ears examined by Dr. Bouchard. She has a mild ear infection and required some medication. We hope you are feeling better Jude. So nice to see you again! 💋
As Dental Awareness Month continues we would like to focus on the importance on a dental prophylaxis. A dental cleaning, also called a "prophy" or prophylaxis, includes a thorough dental examination, cleaning and polishing of the teeth. Prophylaxis is an important dental treatment for halting the progression of periodontal disease and gingivitis.
Periodontal disease and gingivitis occur when bacteria from plaque colonize on the gingival (gum) tissue, either above or below the... gum line. These bacterial colonies cause serious inflammation and irritation which in turn produce a chronic inflammatory response in the body. As a result, the body begins to systematically destroy the gums and bone tissue, making the teeth shift and the teeth become unstable. The pockets between the gums and teeth become deeper and more bacteria which may travel via the bloodstream and infect other pats of the body.
It is important to realize that dental disease does not reach a particular level and remain there. Dental disease continuously progresses. As dental disease progresses, the treatment becomes more involved, meaning longer and more elaborate dental procedures. ( more costly too) This means that sooner is better than later when it comes to addressing your pet's dental disease with an appropriate treatment.
Our cost for a dental prophy is $453.00 plus taxes. This is our price not just for the month of February but for every month of the year!!! We think every month should be dental awareness month. We care about the health of your pet. Call now to book your pets comprehensive oral health assessment today. 😁
