I live in Montreal and my boy Rufus was very sick and needed an emergency surgery to remove a tumor from his intestine. No vets in Montreal were helpful. My sister RVT Cassie Hunter told me to have hi...s info faxed over to the staff at Cataraqui. I recieved a call from Dr. Matyas one of vets and she explained everything to me. She told me that both her and Dr. Bouchard were looking at the file. I managed to book an appointment for the monday at a vet in quebec, but found out they were prepping for Tuesday.. Unfortunately my boy passed away in his sleep. Thank you for your help and for your compassion. Amazing vets and staff. See More

To Dr. Keller and the staff at Cataraqui Pet Hospital, please accept our sincere thanks for your care, compassion and condolences that you have given to us, and our beloved Gino. Saying goodbye to hi...m after 16 years was one of the hardest things my husband and I have had to do, and even though we knew it was best for him and clearly time to let him go, you made a very difficult time just that little bit easier with the way you helped us through the process. You gave us our privacy, yet made sure we were okay and in need of anything. You all understood what I had to deal with, and offered comfort and help when and if I needed it. Every detail was explained to me beforehand and I knew what to expect. During Gino's many years in your care, you always treated him with kindness, smiles, and expertise, even though we all know he made those nail trims quite a challenge! I left my boy that day feeling a little lost and heartbroken, but I also left feeling some peace and comfort for Gino, thanks to all of you who helped us through and made sure he was not frightened and agitated. If some day I feel I can think about another member joining our family, I will most certainly be back to put he or she in your capable and loving care. All our thanks, gratitude and appreciation to you. We will always remember what you did for Gino and us, and how you did it. I know Gino thanks you as well.

When he became very ill and near the end of his life Dr. Matyas guided us in the right choices to ensure... Mac was comfortable and at peace. We are forever grateful! With our soon to be new pup we will be sure to visit Dr. Matyas and the Cataraqui Pet Hospital for all our pups care. The staff are all wonderful! See More

We were happy with the care of our dog when we brought her in to be spayed. Because she had a lump that needed to be removed, the cost was higher than we anticipated. We asked if we could pay 2/3 of t...he bill now and the balance in one week. Unfortunately the office said they were not willing to do that. I could understand that if we were new customers, but we have been taking our pets to The Cataraqui Pet Hospital for about 20 years. We were disappointed that they couldn't be flexible for a long-term customer. See More

All my pets, since moving to Glenburnie, and back to Kingston, have been under the excellent care of this Pet Hospital.
Dr. Kellar, is an excellent vet and surgeon. The only pet that I had, nobody co...uld handle was Spice, but Dr. Kellar, and his other staff, worked around that, and still looked after Spice, until the day he had to be put down.
If anyone can handle that cat, then they have to be good. Missy, and Taco-Timmy like him & rest of the staff.

Happy got you day to our Burt! 😻 Five years ago today this handsome guy came into our lives. Burt is now 12 year old and doing well as a senior. He still likes to play around with a catnip pillow, nibbles on unattended canned food left in the pet kitchen and occasionally tests large bags of food for our patients. ( just making sure it tastes good) Burt's favorite thing is to climb on the counter for a good pet and purr session with the staff and our clients. We love you Burt and we cannot imagine the clinic without you. Extras treats and extra love for you today. 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💋

Friday ended the week with more presents for our Vet Assistants. It was a pleasure to see the smiles on their faces. One of the best things you can do is tell someone they are appreciated and valued and we definitely felt that this week. Happy long weekend Ashley, Karly, Monique and Barb!!

Watch Dr Matyas and Phebe demonstrating the proper way to brush your pet teeth. The time you commit to this training process can make a significant improvement in your pets oral health. It can have a great impact on the quality of their life.
Ask one of our team members for additional hints and a toothbrush to start practicing/training.
Thank you Phebe for being such a good sport! Happy brushing everyone! 😁😁😁

🐾 Happy Veterinary Assistant week to our Barb!! 🐾

Barb has been with Cataraqui Pet Centre for over 3 years. She has many roles in the clinic and in the pet centre. You could find her working at Urban Paws discussing nutrition with customers/clients. You will see her at the clinic talking to clients and discussing patient care with them. Barb is also our practice manager. She helps support the staff and our clients daily.
Barb loves working with animals (especially fuzzy one...s) and her passion for them always shines through. She will consistently go the extra mile to help an animal, a coworker or a client in need. Barbs dedication and her compassion is something the staff counts on everyday.
We appreciate all your hard work Barb. Thank you for all that you do for us and for the patients we all care for. We hope you have a great week and stay tuned for more surprises for you on the way. 😻

Monique Labonte has worked for Cataraqui Pet Hospital for 2 years as a Veterinary Assistant. Monique is one of the hardest working young women I know for her age. She applied herself in college and acquired a job immediately in her field. We had the opportunity to work with Monique while she was replacing a maternity leave position and we were so impressed with her skills, compassion and determination that we could not let her go, she became a permanent member of our team. M...onique is very hands on and is one of the first to assist in our treatment area with restraining animals, cutting nails, or setting up for procedures. You rarely see her sitting still; she is always working, cleaning or preparing for the next procedure or client. Monique provides us with plenty of laughs and has a unique and quirky sense of humor, which can always keep her coworkers smiling. I personally appreciate her ability to volunteer for any task, her proactivity and even more so her absolute love for animals. Monique’s little Dachshund Phebe is a regular feature in our office and her mom has trained her well. So Monique this is your week, HAPPY VETERINARY ASSISTANT WEEK – there are many fun things planned for the days ahead and you have more than earned them!

This is no easy task in a busy clinical environment and we value her attention to detail, organization and her ability to be proactive and always look for ways to improve our service for our cli...ents and patients. You will no doubt recognize her warm smile and the compassion that she shows when you walk in the door of Cataraqui Pet Hospital. I personally appreciate that I can always count on Ashley to follow through with tasks and offer assistance to her coworkers. It is a pleasure working with such a conscientious, empathetic and caring person and I always enjoy learning from your years of experience in the animal field. Hey Jude! 💜💜💜

Image may contain: dog

Welcome back to sweet Jude! 💜
Jude is a boxer cross who is almost 1 years old. We have had the pleasure of taking care of Jude since she was the cutest puppy. Our staff remembers her as the puppy who couldn't keep her little head out of our treat jar. 😀 Jude's head is much too big to fit in there now. She had grown up into a beautiful, happy girl who still enjoys treats!
Jude was recently in to have her ears examined by Dr. Bouchard. She has a mild ear infection and required some medication. We hope you are feeling better Jude. So nice to see you again! 💋

As Dental Awareness Month continues we would like to focus on the importance on a dental prophylaxis. A dental cleaning, also called a "prophy" or prophylaxis, includes a thorough dental examination, cleaning and polishing of the teeth. Prophylaxis is an important dental treatment for halting the progression of periodontal disease and gingivitis.

Periodontal disease and gingivitis occur when bacteria from plaque colonize on the gingival (gum) tissue, either above or below the... gum line. These bacterial colonies cause serious inflammation and irritation which in turn produce a chronic inflammatory response in the body. As a result, the body begins to systematically destroy the gums and bone tissue, making the teeth shift and the teeth become unstable. The pockets between the gums and teeth become deeper and more bacteria which may travel via the bloodstream and infect other pats of the body.

It is important to realize that dental disease does not reach a particular level and remain there. Dental disease continuously progresses. As dental disease progresses, the treatment becomes more involved, meaning longer and more elaborate dental procedures. ( more costly too) This means that sooner is better than later when it comes to addressing your pet's dental disease with an appropriate treatment.

Our cost for a dental prophy is $453.00 plus taxes. This is our price not just for the month of February but for every month of the year!!! We think every month should be dental awareness month. We care about the health of your pet. Call now to book your pets comprehensive oral health assessment today. 😁
