What if all boys were created equal? When I was in middle school, the school called my parents and said an “anonymous source” had told them that I was in the bathroom, smoking weed. I wasn’t — in fact, I’d never even smoked weed. But as one of the only Black kids in the school, I was considered guilty and responsible for proving my own innocence. At that moment, it didn’t matter that I was a good student who had never been in trouble. What mattered was that I was a young Blac...k girl in a predominantly white school, and that Black people are automatically assumed to be criminals. @ava tackles this head on with her new film, @whentheyseeus — a movie based on the story of the Central Park 5. Mark your calendars—the movie premieres on 5/31 only on @netflix. We love you @ava! Thank you for always telling our stories. #ava #netflixmovies #whentheyseeus #whenwilltheyseeus #centralparkfive
