Crooks is finishing soundcheck. Charlie Stout opens the show around 9:30 and the band goes on around 11. Should be another excellent night!
Tonight we do what we always do, sit around and sing our favorite songs. SONGSWAP FEATURING Troy Stone, Robert Cannon, & HalleyAnna. No cover!

I loved this venue deep in the heart of Texas, and I love its awesome history. I was so pumped to see Randy Rogers in such a small venue, but annoyingly could not enjoy the show due to all of the rude... people talking and not paying attention. We could hardly hear Randy singing! You paid money to see this show, but you disrespect the artist and have your back turned chatting it up with your friends like you're in a bar on sixth street. Maybe the side chatter was so noticeable because it was a smaller venue? Or maybe I'm just getting old?! Overall, the venue was great (a little hot) but the crowd sucked. See More

This has to be one of the best live music, up close and personal venues I've been to. The atmosphere is friendly, old decor is perfect. Last night was my first experience there and to be able to see of my personal favorites in Randy Rogers with Bruce Robison, I could not have asked for a better first time. I'm definitely coming back for more I the future!!! See More

Great spot. Friendly staff, great selection of beer and liqour. Doesn't get much more authentic than this. Sound and production sounded great as well. It's our go to spot when we are in New Bransfuels.

Awesome location, with a Rich history of country music and Texas country as well! The crawfish boil and Randy Rogers Band acoustic concert is a great concept, and I plan to attend every year going for...ward.

Great job Randy Rogers, and congratulations on the recent acquisition of the place! I'm sure you'll take it even further in the history books of Texas Hill Country locations to visit.

Now, let's get some ventilation in that place, because it's hot in there!

Cheatham Street is one of the Best Venues in South Texas! As a proud Venue Owner myself I'm always Happy to be mentioned in the same articles about such a great venue !

We went on valentines night to see Sunney Sweeney for the first time...we lucked out and got to see a slew of great singer/songwriters there as well Randy Rogers, David Lee and a couple others! Great with the old school live music vibe. We'll be back again for sure! Sunney blew us away with her accoustics and her naturally great sounding vocals.made a fan outta me! See More

I don't even want to give 1 star, disappointed with the new staff. Was there last night and received very poor service, and got locked out in the smoking area out back.... who in the hell blocks a fir...e exit anyways? whatever that bartenders name was last night did not impress me at all . I won't be back again unless you get better staff in there ! See More

This is not Nashville. This is not karaoke. This is musicians, this is Texas, this is beer in jelly jars. This is where experiments take place. This is where people actually listen to new music. This where art happens. This is where it gets real. This is Kent's place. Welcome home. See More

This is truly a magical place. What Kent Finlay started, Jenni, Halleyanna, Sterling, and the Cheatham Street Foundation are continuing. Whether you love the song, love storytelling, or just love in a classic Texas honky tonk, this is the place for you. Special treat on Wednesday nights is Kent Finlay's Songwriter Circle-- go to listen and be inspired by the raw talent the Hill Country produces. It's like no other music venue I've ever been. I have always loved this place, been to a lot of shows, beer was always cheap, and it was a good time. Went this past weekend and the beer prices have skyrocketed! Ive heard that this was due to the p...artners that bought cheatham street and they also own some bars on 6th street. THIS IS NOT 6TH, you will be able to buy drinks at the square for half the price and that's where people will detour to if this doesn't change. Don't get me wrong, I've been going to cheatham since I was a freshman in '12. But the reason why people love this place is because it's historic, it's apart of San Marcos and legends have played here. Let's be's a shack, its roof is low and the drinks are pouring. This is not Austin, sorry, Texas state students aren't idiots, we'll get drinks cheaper somewhere else. See More

I have been to Cheatham numerous times since the new ownership took over. The changes are great -- the venue is cleaner and it is nice to see that they are bringing in such great talent on a weekly b...asis. It has become a place that we visit often and can always look forward to a great show. The staff is great too! See More

GOOD STUFF: Best happy hour prices in San Marcos. CSW caters to musicians and songwriters, with special emphasis on live performance, especially their Songwriters' Circle Wednesday nights. Free pool.... Mostly working-class customers, some of us codgers, too. I like their machine margaritas @ $1.50 pints during happy hour (3-7:30). Laid-back socializing and listening to live music. Historic old train depot and lots of big names have played CSW since 1974. Decent acoustics. Owned by a music foundation.

DRAWBACKS: Clock on register is a couple minutes fast and sometimes you can't get that planned last HH drink at 7:27. They struggle sometimes keeping all the devices working (AC/cold boxes/taps/marg machine). When it's cold, the ceiling fans are still going top speed. Loud trains go by often on adjacent tracks.
