Sheriff Dannels Responds to Disdainful Public Service Announcement
On Monday May 8, 2017, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a local radio station, KAVV – The Cave 97.7 FM, was airing a “Public Service Announcement” that was inappropriate. Information was obtained from members of the public and some media outlets regarding this PSA, stating that the content was disturbing at the very least.
Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels spoke with media members and through some initial investigation, it appears that the PSA (which has now been taken off of the air) was running in the late evening and/or early morning hours for almost two years. The PSA advised the public on ways to “hide your child pornography from your computer by keeping all content on an external hard drive and hide it where no one can find it”. The radio station owner advised that Possession of Child Pornography should not be illegal.
Sheriff Mark Dannels wants our communities to know, “this is very disturbing to know that a member of our local media, who should be one of the responsible groups of people to provide factual information to our public to keep them safe, is promoting and encouraging criminal behavior. This is a disgusting and unacceptable public service announcement and this type of propaganda encourages evil behavior. Freedom of speech does not include telling people to commit crimes and continuing to pass on this information could lead to judicial action being taken. The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is now aware of this activity and will continue to seek legal advice on actions that can be taken for the content that has already been released and to ensure this kind of information in not released again.”

Thank you Sheriff Dannels for caring. I think Paul Lotsof's facilities and computers should be searched and the doors of that station shuttered for good. God bless you.

I have not been a resident of Cochise County for very long and have never heard of KAVV – The Cave 97.7 FM, but 2 years and no one complained to the Sheriff or the police or the FCC? make me wonder what kind of people live in Cochise county and listen to KAVV – The Cave 97.7 FM.

I have heard the "PSA" myself a few weeks ago. I couldn't believe what I had heard.
I don't typically advocate boycotts, but I will NOT support a dirty, creepy, old man or his business. Neither will I patronize any businesses that advertise on this sicko's airwaves.
He has given his voice, and now it's my turn to tune out.

Blows my mind how this was airing for 2 years, and I'm seeing people comment how they themselves have heard it before in the past.... and yet it took this long for this to be addressed?!? SV inhabits some of the absolute most mind blowing people. Smh, someone always waits for someone else to do something, instead of being the person to stand up and say this is wrong.

I am not sure how I feel about the Sheriff getting involved with 1st Amendment issues - he needs to watch his own staff for their continual infractions and let the FCC and other Constitutional authorities do their jobs. Is it really the job of the Sheriff to threaten a business owner for potential 1st Amendment infractions? was a crime committed? Not that I am supportive of the PSA contents - it's just that I think it is possible that the Sheriff is stepping out of bounds.

Today Garret Lewis gave this enough attention I'm sure this so-called First Amendment Expression by a PD with very bad judgement will be struggling very hard to find advertisers in the future. Elections and bad choices have consequences. Sorry, people. That's the real world.

This is disgusting, boycott absolutely, picket lines, and much more should be done by the public. But there isn't a whole lot the first amendment doesn't cover. Unless your words directly harm " yelling fire in a movie theater" type situation. You could post all kinds of crap on the internet telling people how to do illegal and disgusting stuff.
Nobody is going to care that you use your position to intimidate and harass this guy that probably no one wants in the community. But you should probably find a better reason to arrest him so our tax dollars don't go to defending you in court against the aclu.
