My friends @nurse.org are promoting a campaign created by @nurse.blake to stop nurse bullying. Academic and real-life research indicates over 80% of nurses have... been bullied at some point in their careers. A quick google search of “why do nurses...” reveals “eat their young” as one of the top most searched phrases. Bullying is poison to the profession of nursing and much of it is derived from the historical perspective of nursing being a subordinate role, consequently breeding deep insecurities. Bullying creates a dysfunctional, fearful, and exclusive, culture that is cyclical in ruining new nurses and negatively affecting patient care. We have to be better and we have to take responsibility for our actions. We must cure our insecurities by investing in each other as nurses. Because when we build one, we build all; when we hurt one, we hurt all.
