On this day, fifty years ago, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. A powerful voice that demanded justice and equality for all was tragically silenced. Dr. King’s words inspired a generation to tear down the walls of discrimination and strive to build “the beloved community.”
His legacy continues today, but there is still much work that needs to be done. Many of the principles Dr. King fought for are now under constant threat: the right to vote, access to a quality education, and fair wages that value the dignity of work. If we do not fight injustice wherever we find it, we are failing to keep the light of Dr. King’s legacy shining bright for the world to see. On this day, let us renew our shared commitment to advancing Dr. King’s legacy and vision of peace and justice for all.
