Always been a tradition that we address the issue of our veterans funding at the, which is very die right now that we risk respond to this very serious opioid crisis and be certain that we're providing resources to combat this really serious public health crisis. Uh that we re authorize as chip in a way that the Senate passed children's health and that we take care of the dreamers so we have really a list of things which need to be done before the end of the Here and that's what we have uh ask the Republican colleagues to take up, but um unfortunately, those issues you dressed so now they put this off for another two weeks and hopes that hopefully we'll get some listings done. Uh the other thing we did this week was we passed the reciprocity bill which I talked about my last town Hall pepe to talk more about it um but this is a bill which will allow individuals to get a concealed carry permit in one state uh in state that doesn't have the same requirements of the state. They live in so go to the least restrictive state and Uh then be able to carry that concealed voted farm in the country so anyway it's. We didn't get a lot done this week. Sadly, but I'd love to take your questions now and we go to our first question here. Uh thank you, jennifer uh uh Thomas Ducks, reprints, that right you be addressing the Super gel system and the dance sees complicity and handing this talking thrown uh. I think you know number I support easy indicated that we think Super delegates still make sense and they will be limited and I know that the Second, the chairman of our the Democrat National Committee is undergoing a very thorough review of the operations of the Sea and proposing some reforms that were gonna see we've seen some of those already see many more, but uh some things important solution. All pay attention to um. I make a next question uh how can we let Frank and resign while more set to be elected and trump remains in office. This is from cassie love uh dems are In the battle because we refuse to get in the mud with Republicans with the dems ever stop giving up look um, I think uh it's important to look at the way that Democrats and Republicans are responding to this issue. Um you know we have to see the President who was on tape acknowledging uh sexual predatory conduct the. They have a candidate for United States Senate who has been accused from several sources of being involved in social contact with children and in addition to that, they have member of Congress who Who have paid out a settlement. Uh as well here in the Congress and you know, I think they have to be accountable for the sitting Democrats have made it very clear that uh we are gonna respond in a very serious way to these allegations and we're gonna be sure that uh we work on a very comprehensive approach. This so that everyone in America, just working Congress can do so safely and free from any kind of sexual harassment and that's really important and we should be proud that position and we should do everything we can to make sure every single one in this country works can work in a safe place free from Central harassment period so um Thank you, David nice to see you uh mary harmon chips shouldn't coming under Obama care right as trip is a separate authorization. That's the children's health insurance program covers millions of children in American families and we need to your authorized the authorization. That was originally passed, paid for the trip a chip off position by cutting the prevention fund which is things like vaccines immunizations so that's not anything we supported so we're gonna have to continue to press hard for funding and authorization for the chip program uh daryl Born thank you guys keep up your fight for the people. I appreciate that uh. Let me go David would you consider coming to the content on Sunday at 5 PM uh for the uh for a visual for the new term victims. I would back I'm gonna be not enrolled on on Sunday night I'll be there Sunday day, but um. I really appreciate that you do you have individual and uh I spoke about the victims of new term and I oppose the reciprocity building before so we should all keep those families in our thoughts and prayers. Many of those family here in Washington uh as well to commemorate that anniversary. I thank you Kevin met and I appreciate your keep up the great work country. Things um next Clinton roach. Why are we helping immigrants before and homeless Americans are events in our home is that I don't think go anyone thinks we should help uh immigrants before sending. We have to do both protect immigrants, which, if we have added so much to our state into our country and I'm a great grandson of immigrants, immigrants have made tremendous contributions to America we've always been proud to be a place that welcomes people from all over the world and we Then, if it from being a place that people come to the create a better life for themselves and their families, uh and I think we have to be of course, very serious about our responsibly to our veterans and very proud of the work that I do to take care of our veterans month now in my veterans case, work, but fighting as hard as I can to be sure that we are uh doing everything we can to be certain veterans have everything they need when they return education, housing, health care uh all the services that are necessary to uh from in our veterans to make Yes, you know healthy and safe entry to civilian life and we go tremendous debt of gratitude to our veterans and I think it's a very self responsibility. Um comes after 10 years of being on this is Mark Anthony Simpson, ensign a considers that I work with is losing his benefits to the er is the the office we need. Many up uh Mark. If you would call my office uh 729 50 600 it's close right now, but we open tomorrow morning at eight 30. I just call and ask to speak with rita and we can absolutely help with that so that's where anyone, if you have the conceptual problem with this particular agency in particular, issue, please understand my offices are Source from where they are to help in any way that we can so just call my office. Seven to 956 zero zero uh go um I'm very vaccines are covered on the 18 o'clock, a great job congressman it's company to know that our congressman have our interest are to thank you for saying that uh thank you for what's the status on the potential government shutdown from lexie Kelly uh the. There was a two week continue resolution passed tonight which unfortunately just so from the government for two weeks doesn't address many of the virgin issues that are currently Sing uh Congress to re authorize the children's health insurance program that was not included and to be sure that equal funding between defense and non defense spending, not that balance that ratio is not included. Uh to ensure that we have probably response the opioid addiction and the resources that was not included and take care of veterans and make sure you set the is not included so there's, a lot of work that means to do, but we're gonna be back uh hmm next week and then I get on the Get the 20 second uh until we get these issues resolved. Um many long hike has been how are working families like mine to be impacted by the proposed tax bill and then invitation to visit fall out of food business kitchen. Uh just absolutely I'll take it and then add the tax proposal that the House passed, that I voted against. I think, very damaging to two working families and it will increase taxes on about eighty seven million American families. It's trillion and a half dollar deficit that create Rates provides tax cuts to the people at the very top of wealthiest people in this country and the biggest corporations. 62 percent of the text goes the top one percent in this country and it further incentivize shipping American jobs, overseas and and will really not promote job growth and so this is uh writing a terrible bill uh that will result and real hard to middle-class families and my hope is we can defeat in the conference Committee, but it pass the House the Senate Another version and there's a Committee trying to reconcile him um but it's not it's a actually text that's gonna got Medicare and social security Republican said this is the first part basically give away a trillion and a half dollars in the next two years. That we have no money. We have to cut social security and Medicare and medicaid and programs and infrastructure and it's really a back-door ever to totally just invest in all the things that matter to hardworking Middle class families in this country and uh very terrible bill Combo it's not over yet people have to be sure their voices are heard and helping people are contacting their members of Congress to speak out against it. Uh Eddie client going what can we do as citizens to preserve net neutrality. This is incredibly important issue uh the Sea is about to undo the protections of net neutrality that the Obama administration putting the place preserving the open Internet is critical. It's it's the way that we can ensure that when you have Internet service, you have access to the full lawful Internet Not just a pieces of it and you have to pay more to get certain things or get things more quickly and that is really critical to the function when open Internet and making sure that the as you see here is from of folks about their objection to this and that you can you get that to members of Congress. I'm a big supporter in fighting very hard to protect net neutrality and this is just one of the many things. This administration is doing which I think is very harmful um go to Kathy, thanks for all you do. I appreciate that. Thank you. Uh what's, your take on H. 38. I just spoke about that. That's that the reciprocity bill, um that's a message from rodrigues gonna. Ask us to the end of a hot old which is making access that thank you um thank you for the nice words and she says thank you for your good work to appreciate very much uh. Thank you Mark breaks that right. Appreciate your uh confidence um. I Co uh and to promise and I'm not sure if I pronounce that um, why don't you this for your positions, rundown of your personal conference and how the events lives of people hope you. A great idea and you know I always describe the work I've done. It coming for buckets. One is a constituent case where which is helping thousands of constituents solve the real problems they have with housing or employment or so security Medicare and so I take that work very seriously and I have been very pleased to be able to help thousands of islanders themselves actual problem. They having with the federal agents here, the family coming the second area is fighting hard to bring back resources to rhode island, make sure we get our fair share and that's cups. Graham for a police Department or savor Grand for far Department or infrastructure money to help bridge or make an infrastructure investment at the ports and so I work with Center is warehouse in Commerce legend and make sure we get as much as we can for our state and the jobs that come from that, that have corps Fighting for the legislation introduced and this success, I got a number of my bills, but also on the fourth standing up and fighting against things that that I know the harmful toward island had examples of that. So I'm happy that kinda give you more detail, but those are kinda generally that the areas that I can describe the four hours in my work um Hmm friend calls for 40000 manufacturing jobs creating last 10 months uh. You know I think there are many colors are very focus on how we grow manufacturing jobs in this country and how we really promote by America provision. So that American manufactures have a level playing field. One of the reason I'm so opposed the new tax bill is because it addition to all the other things that does it makes more generous the incentives to create America to ship American jobs, overseas and many of those are manufacturing jobs, so I've worked a lot on this making America general a lot of my Work is around helping to grow American manufacturing uh and we're in the midst of hopefully negotiating to uh that I think, will also be important for manufacturing. Patrick backers as build the Stadium okay. I have someone you see say hi and follow your from mali, West Africa, but you get the award for the most distant participant, probably in this facebook live so thank you for that um friend for Can you complain about the tax plan. Your text look one of things. I always look as how does this proposal, whatever it is affected. Island. This is a taxpayers. Witches, not only bad for the country and forward comes bad for them and eliminates the deduction for state local tax deductions. It eliminates the deduction for medical expenses for student loan interest is the House bill and and it again put us further into debt a trillion half dollars in debt borrowing money from from foreign Gov It's to get a tax cut to the riches people in this country, those powerful corporations and the next generation is gonna have that burden and it's not something I can support in good conscience. It won't it's trickle down economics. You know basically let everyone at the top hold on yeah as much of your money as possible trickle down the rest of us and be good and we know that doesn't work we've seen that before that the only kind of across that make sense is when you invested growing the Middle class and folks in the best and have higher incomes, lower cost in their lives have jobs that provide good wages so you can go out and buy the goods and services that business produces the That's how you create an economy that is growing and that's how you create a Middle class that really promotes the demand that you need to to create new jobs and that's invest in the Middle class, not by trickle down economics, which we've seen time and again does not work. Um. That we go uh I signed up because I missed a few people. Uh aron and graduate. This message from your I am physically debt that him I may be unable to repay up points in the future. Uh do you have any plans to perform support decision will help absolutely I already introduce the number of bills that are designed to reduce the cost of higher education uh. I Coast and other bills that allow young people and parents to refinance existing dead to extend over a longer period of time, with an automatic payroll deduction interest free loans for education so I have prepared introduced a number of bills this is a very, very serious issues. Young people are graduating with Enormous debt and facing a difficult job market in jobs that just don't pay enough and we're seeing this a huge to loan debt that I think is really gonna be the next big credit crisis and there are number of ideas out there. That we've introduced that will reduce the cost of education uh and all young people to graduate debt free. That is absolutely what we should be focused on a sadly, we haven't seen any willingness from our Republican colleagues to bring those bills to floor really work with us in a bipartisan way Passing legislation to make College affordable for families and this is a really serious, serious issues. Um can you comment on the cuts to homeless vets. Uh. This is one of the reasons that I am so distress that the cr two they didn't address. This issue the is seriously underfunded um facing some pretty dire circumstances think there is no greater responsible that we have and to take care of our veterans to make sure they have all the services that they need uh that they have education assistance, employment assistance, mental health services, uh how access to quality health care, all the things they need to re integrate successfully into civilian society. You know Are we enjoy the incredible freedoms we do in this country because of the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and their families and they know that when they come home we're gonna do everything we can to take care of them and and we're pay them in some small way for what they've done and that's forming a priority for me um christine hello comments and we've been watching listening to you in our home or more thank you for speaking specially thank you, thanks for saying that uh thank you For Joe home, uh Good Sean, what are the odds of government shut and look. I feel very strongly that we should do all that we can to prevent the government from shutting down uh. We don't have as Democrats, the bill to shut the government down we're in the minority. So that decision will be made by the Republicans, but I hope, as we and this year they will address the many remaining issues which have not been addressed before we leave in December and uh there's, a long list, but will be back for two more weeks enough. We can get a lot of this time um. We just move out Uh hope Congress and how do you feel about moving us embassy for two reasons. You think it's just a political by the present uh. Why do you think it could be some changes before the millions piece look I'm my position is pretty clear. I believe, is the eternal camp Capitol of the Israel and the Jewish people uh. I think the us embassy belongs there. I'm very concerned, however, that this decision by the President in this moment will undermine our ability to be an honest broker in the peace process um. I think we're seeing some signs already that it is creating some substantial on Just state Department issued a warning to the sees around the world and my only point is that this this peaceful only be achieved when the stands and is really to reach a piece. That's for negotiations and while our position on juice and should be clear and we've made, it clear, I think that we should be doing things that are gonna make the peace process more difficult to start up. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe able not have that effect, but that's my concern. They were seeing some early signs that will so uh though I support the That you know, recognition of juice them as the eternal capital of Israel. I think that decision by the administration is gonna make it more difficult to actually make that a reality. Um because I think it's gonna make it more difficult for the us to be an honest broker so help I'm wrong, but that's my assessment of it. At this point um how can I have some Middle class in the state. We have a present context. Progress in Congress and bad say to hire people where to look, I think this is the Central question that we face, not only Brown, but all across this country that is, that You'll are not making enough money to live on. You know families have seen their incomes stagnant and we're seeing record you know, profits on Wall Street record profits from the biggest corporations in this country, but working people are not seeing the same thing. The shop. This shared prosperity and so that's what the Democrats have releasing very bold economic agenda that's really about raising incomes, reducing the cost and people's lives. Everything from cable bills to student loans to child care and also being sure that people have the skills necessary for the jobs the 20 first century so even if you have a job, you have a lot of anxiety. My keep it or if I can't fit find a job by the skills necessary to find a job so it's about increasing incomes, reducing the cost and people's lives And and make sure that people have the tools for success in the 20 first century, better jobs, better wages for better future, with a better deal for the American people in the raw deal. They're getting from from Republicans and I think that is the focus of the economic agenda that we launched. That really is focused on raising coming comes millions of people across this country. Thousands of islanders will go to bed tonight worried that they're just not making enough money to pay the bills to get ahead to take care of their families that's what we have to be focus on and I think that's what uh Democrats have our ticket in this agenda and I think, frankly, that's what the tax bill doesn't do and which is one the reasons I post a so strongly Um hi the Smith, how we protect federal health and human services programs with this budget, I'm very worried that the city will become a single um. I think this is really a exactly the plan. The some of the Republican, my opponents have already said it that this is phase one and giving away trillion and trying to half dollars in revenues you know, without paying for these tax cuts will them six months without say, we have no money. We have to cut social security. We have to cut Medicare. We have to uh because we have no money. This is this is that will be face to this is this is Republican proposal Got Medicare got medicaid cut programs and this tax plan is the first phase of that. So people need to understand this is not only children have thousand debt that is creating it's the first part of the Republican plan to gut social safety net in this country and to eliminate so many important programs to hardworking Middle class families and that's help you have to really fight against this with with everything we can, because, it's gonna be a lot of people and that's why I've been fighting really hard and will continue to do that to To defeat this bill, uh until back up on two plus serious thing okay, that you never see um you go next to debra nice. How comes and how can we get the Republicans to move forward with plans to enrich Americans, not encourage homelessness poverty and consequently, how jail populations are increase and so just because if they have no option and you know we've been making this argument to our colleagues about the importance of making investments in the Middle class and to create good paying jobs in to raise Uh we have not had as much success convincing. Many of our pumpkin colleagues to kind of approach of this way, but we're gonna keep trying obviously um uh. They made I'm very proud of every single that you're doing a great job. Thank you and stretch uh friend girls for saying Democrats cut taxes, book. I think there is no question that we should have a tax cut for Middle class families uh that we should simplify our tax code that we should uh make it easier for make our tax code fair, but it should the beginning point should be let's, let's give a tax cut to Middle class families are real tax, good, not a tax cut for the top. One percent enough for big corporations and multi National let's give a tax cut for Working families in this country and if we had a process where there was a bipartisan effort to work with Democrats to really reform the tax on, we could do some great things are that they will last time we did tax reform. Your hundreds of witnesses that testified over blowing over a very long period time over eighteen months because it complicated this time the Republicans are jamming to this tax bill. There are no hearings, no witnesses, no collaboration with Democrats. They were getting structures from their lobbyist, their hand writing bills on the Senate version would really really respond to the corporate special interest financing their campaigns that's not where did you attacks perform bill this isn't a tax reform The scam it's gets cutting taxes on the top one percent riches, people. This country and the Middle class is gonna be stuck with the bill. So I think we should content that you got taxes on working people Middle class families. That's not what this tax bill does um so I think we're marion here um she'll gag man, please help my parents, their elderly. My dad is in remission from cancer and petrified for their Medicare. They paid for their entire lives. These people are month, sister in this a Show I grew to 100 percent um Medicare and social security are two programs that we created because they reflect our values as a country. We created Medicare because we decided when you reach to certain aid you should have access to quality affordable healthcare and we created Medicare for that reason, we crazy social security because we decide when you reach a certain age or have a certain disability. You should be guaranteed incomes. You can live. Your time in years with tiffany. We should be proud of those programs. They reflect our values As a country and by the way with my Republican calling say you know they sort of scoring and say we need entitlement reform. These are entitlements. These are turned benefits folks receive medicaid so screen have paid into the system have worked their whole lives and they are they deserve for that. We fight hard to protect those they earn these benefits nobody's giving into them and what we should be talking about is how do we increase social security. How do we expand the coverage of Medicare. You know it used to be that lots of people live on There, it was such a pretty busy one leg of a three legged stool people had their pension from their company. They had their savings from a lifetime of hard work and they had social security was one leg of a three legged stool. But today you know many companies have got rid of pensions lots of fucking folks have used up their savings because family illness or help the kids go to school, so more images are relying on social screen alone and more more Americans are and so we really should be told us how do we increase social security so you can actually you live on that and living out your retirement with Day and instead, we're Super problems to make deep cuts to both these programs to terrible idea. It's also, why we have to focus on you know the next generation of young people who are pursuing their dreams and going to school and settle with enormous dad and Congress has done nothing to address that. There's, a lot of good ideas to to reduce the cost of higher education to allow young people to graduate free from debt so they're not going to the job market settled by enormous debt. Those are things we should be doing. It and make a real difference in our country and Uh sadly, that's not what our proposing kinds of focus on but uh I'm gonna continue focus on those issues. I know they're important around important to our country and I just end by saying uh you know it long week here, but I feel very privileged to have the honor of representing the Congress and working for the people around. Thank everyone for being part of this facebook live and see the facebook live very soon. Thanks for participate
