Good evening everyone uh I'm gonna, have a live town Hall meeting now for the next half hour. So I am congressman David, since learning from the first congressional district of rhode island. I here in my office in for tuck it, um have a great day today actually I began the day with so reading to elementary school students at the Park elementary school and one sock. It which is great uh and the earlier in the week participate along with meryl orders and going armando and the celebration of skills for future which is an Organization is Has taken several workforce training money to really help islanders uh for jobs in the 20 first century and uh celebrating over 500 on this place to good paying jobs. So that was a great celebration. It's good to fight for a job training resources from in Washington bring it back to around it's especially good seeing them go to work and I really wanna compliment the governor and her staff of the director of a labor training Scott Johnson, for the great work they've done uh when we announced the Democratic agenda of better jobs, better wages for better future. He really a three pillars raising family incomes, reducing the cost and people's lives and making sure people are prepared for job in the 20 first century and that celebration is really about the work that's being done here to do that. So I'm pleased we also last week launched uh a key part of that kind of tools to succeed in the 20 first century a part of our economic agenda and we release to plan to really Invest in america's workforce, um doubling a pri k through 12 public education investments and steam over the next five years. Um doubling investments and work based training programs and register to practice. Ribs as well as paid on the job training, us. So a real investment in the American worker um also supporting a number of initiatives to protect workers by making sure that they have Internet work arrangements to get to work of productions and creating Says to where places to portable benefit so people can move from job to job. Um if you're interested in comes in more details of this plan. I encourage you go to the better deal website which has come teach old explained to what we're doing uh really to continue investing. How do we make sure that they economy works for everyone, not just the people at the top and that American workers can see an increase in their wages so people can make more, we see to anywhere down there's, just Not making enough um uh to get by so I wanna just take your questions to your comments and wishes and after the question I wanna start with thank you very much for, for the folks, who've already join us. Um go to the first question and it's not truly gone forever. The answer is absolutely not of the Senate is going to take up a vote to restore net neutrality. We have a piece of legislation that I'm a proud Co sponsor in the House to restore net neutrality uh this is a really important issue for consumers uh making sure the Internet remains open and free Accessible so that when you access the Internet, you have access to everything that's on the Internet. That people can't prioritize or charge more keep you from accessing things. An unfair way. Uh. This is work to 20 the music the Internet has been so powerful and so important. People's lives uh Democrats are committed to restoring your charlie. I think, when we take back the House prevent to do that, you see us take action right away, but in the meantime we're gonna keep pressing her Republican colleagues In House to restore network charlie so um we can't let this issue die. This is really important and thank you for the question. Um steam is all encompassing after them in there for meaningless uh. So steam of course, stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. It's really the focus of the kinds of subject matters that young people need to learn and study in order to be prepared for jobs in the 20 first century and so there's, a real office and making sure young people have access to steam, education um and a lot of job Training that focuses on that as well, so it's very point uh go to my next one. Uh Brian Democrats. Thank you very much for joining us. I appreciate your kind words and I to afford to come back to Brian soon. Thank you. Mandy for your nice words uh check what is being done to stop um stop phone scammers is not some effective and enforcing current regulations. A great question uh a big piece of this is really education so you know, make sure you're. Speaking with the folks in your family folks that you work risk protecting older Americans were often Victims of these phone scams to not share information on the phone do not give out financial information to that give out credit card information. I receive you think something is happening that raises concerns. You should contact the train general's office also contact my office. If you have any questions, we uh encourage people before they make an equipment on the phone of their uncertain at all reach out to my office by staff were happy to help determine whether it's a legitimate issue but A lot of is really just talking if you giving your family, particularly all the members of your family who are really the victims. There's. Some terrible examples with a cop and say your grandson has been arrested or granddaughters been in car accidents send money prey on the love grandparents have for their grandchildren. So think a lot more education has to be done on that. Um but thank you for raising an issue ericka. Thank you very much and uh the dre thanks for being with us uh caroline true, both and It's a war I the voice strong objection to John bolton becoming National security advisor to the President. I think he has uh demonstrated a almost desire to engage in military conflicts has made statements about bombing creator rob which I think a very dangerous and counterproductive um so I agree with you. We have to be sure that would be responsible about this um John area, what To take on the problem, Justice for sense, protections afforded by america's with disabilities, nice, uh. This is a really important and John thank you for all the work you're doing to protect social security and Medicare medicaid. I'm proud to be working with you and making sure that we protect these vital programs of there's been an effort in the House. There was there's, a bill before the judiciary Committee that would significantly got the Americans with disabilities act and we fought hard against it passed the Committee um. I don't think that will be taken up by the Senate, but we have to Really protect the Americans with disability act. It's made a big difference for people with disabilities and um. We wanna be sure that that protection remains in place and I'm committed to making sure that happens so. Thank you for your question. um Uh tina thank you. It's great to hear you and hear question about accessibility. Uh you know I think, making sure that the state working in partnership with local governments understands what the federal laws in this area and helping places access the resources they need to make places accessible and I know there's a number of people that are working on the state wide um. My view is that that we should ensure that everyone has a good access places, a desired access with dignity and that they're accessible and that's why the Americans with disabilities That was put in place that's why people are giving a very extended period time to get their facilities and compliance and I think you know we wanna be sure that we have resources to help people who may be trying to make places accessible. That may not have the ability to do that and I think that's where um so the local state and working together can really make that happen so thank you for the work you're doing. It as well um. I think You carry it was an honor to meet you and uh. This is the okay epidemic is a incredible, incredible challenge not just here but across our country. I think we're starting to see some progress. We have made serious investment, federal resources. Finally, in the a recent post that we passed you have to do a lot more. This is something which is affecting virtually every family in our country either affecting you personally or family Amber or someone you know or friend, it it's it's a crisis that requires, I think I tremendous a serious investing a resources for treatment, be sure doing with the medical profession to be sure that they're considering alternatives to opioids um and um, a number of other ways to be sure that information a month between pharmacies, is being shared and doctors are being retrained so I think the state is actually done up very good job put together, a comprehensive plan. Our delegations fought hard for resources to support that plan and I think finding restoring the season Congress of a this is something we need to continue to stay very focused on so thank you for participating. Thank you, margie for your nice words. Um hi this is lyn thank you for your question. Disaster need to text page and uh you know it's a great question that the travel we've had has been there fighting seven years. I think the House is always had a joplin um. We begin each session with a prayer and the chopping presides over other ceremonies and death. You know Funeral services and things so um you know, I think it also provides counsel and guidance tin to members of Congress. Um. You know, I think there's always been a chaplain. I'm protecting this appointed that the job and we had has been forced to resign by the Speaker he's just a terrific wonderful uh religious leader he's. You know always very inclusive in his prayers and I think provides a lot of good guys to colleagues and I was really disappointed that he was removed from office um James is the ideas and plans are look at only come from certain groups. A touch of people cause the urban people have solutions. Um not I think you know, for this from my perspective, the ideas for legislation that I work on come some of my own ideas. Some come from my staff, a many come from constituents who come to meet with me come to a community meeting. Our town Hall and make suggestions, then they are advocates that are working on different issues with health care, child care or education that have their own ideas, but you know I think there's, a many different sources um the focus of my work has been uh really on how do we He create good paying jobs and raise family incomes and reduce the cost of things and peoples lives. Some child care to health care to education and how do we make sure people have the skills necessary to keep a job. If they have a job to find a job. If they don't um and but I know if you have ideas of specific bills that you think we should introduce, please share those with me. I get lots of great ideas for my constituents so thank you uh Judd and we just knew kristen uh. Thank you. Zach for your nice words. Thank you, karen wonderful County, which um Tina great to hear from you, let me uh I know you, we should say we been doing Ms wheelchair were done in two thousand eighteen an amazing woman. I have the pleasure of meeting uh who is really focused on I'm making rhode island accessible and acknowledging that we have a tremendous amount of work to do um and I know she has been working as she says here with water fire with the Dream Center, a Ministry school um and uh the suggestion about kind of a first experience. I would be very interested because I think those of us who don't have a disability don't wreck Nyse what up I'm dignified experience that is not to be to get into some place and I would really welcome the opportunity participate. That's of you. Um just get get back in touch with me tonight. Happy, be happy to participate. It's a great way to educate folks um here we go just in why is so hard to get hold up I'm not hard to get hold of it all you can always call my office 729 50 600. Can email me. My email, just as on my website and I have you know, for events around the district everyday that I'm home uh they're always open to the public so uh you can do If you want an individual appointment, just call and speak to tatiana who is my schedule here at the district office is 729 50 600 and uh happy to meet with you. Um let's go now House so um. I think the other thing that I just wanna mention here cuz there's have been a lot of discussion about um the work that we're doing with respect to uh rebuilding the infrastructure of country we're gonna have an event this week here in rhode island. This is also really important priority for me is we have, we have deteriorating roads and bridges and transit system and proud benefit and This says he's all across the country but to take their roads and our bridges and our ports and on transit systems and the president's proposed a very modest plan that really involves instead of public private partnership where private developers would developed public of research which I think is in a terrible idea because it involves tolling and basically has tax payers pay for the construction, but also the use that infrastructure and so we put together a plan really to rebuild the country much better deal than the president's proposal it's Trillion dollars to rebuild our roads, bridges, ports, trans assistance, schools, um broadband really to an required the federal government to be a real partner because many local communities and States just don't have the resources to do without the federal government. The president's talk more about you know encouraging States and cities to do more, which is not really a plan. They don't do more because they don't have the resources so we propose a very detailed plan, rebuild our country, but the federal gun be a real partner And um you know that's also on our website better deal um and I think you you know you can see the difference this is will create 16 million good paying jobs really substantially address the you know, infrastructure deficit. We have uh and um really is essential for us to rebuilding and I wanna mention before we close um that on Thursday may third, this Thursday uh tomorrow from five to seven at the these problems, senior Center is my annual senior resources, fair starts tomorrow. Five to seven Problem seems Center. We have about 70 providers that if information about health care and nutrition and housing, uh and a whole range of other services for seniors all in one place so for seniors or caregivers, are people of disabilities. Right and having to run around and call 70 different agencies, organizations it's all in one place six 10 Avenue in these providence from five to seventh it's free open to the public. Please come uh the Benefit from it. If you are a senior or if you have a family member who is a senior or a caregiver, um it's a great great place to coming and get some information. Um and uh. I think that I have to conclude here but I appreciate everyone tuning in. I hope you'll join me at my next facebook live again.
