Earlier today, I voted in favor of H.R. 4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act. The measure passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 289-137. It would temporarily suspend the program allowing Syrian and Iraqi refugees into the United States until an adequate screening program is in place to certify each individual does not pose a national security risk. Click the video below to watch my address on this issue to the House of Representatives.

Yesterday the House passed—with overwhelming bipartisan support—the Iran Nuclear Agreement Act, which will allow Congress to review any agreement struck by the Obama Administration on Iran's nuclear program. As the world's leading sponsor of terrorism, it is critically important for Congress to have oversight on any type of #IranDeal.

ICYMI: This month I introduced a bipartisan resolution to ensure that nations who we negotiate trade deals with, are active in the recovery efforts of our POW/MIA's. The resolution already has 41 co-sponsors.

Congratulations to Megan Smith, a senior at Bellefonte Area High School, for winning First Place in the annual Congressional Art Competition. Megan's work, "Spoons," will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year with winners across the country!

We had 39 outstanding entries this year! Congratulations to everyone who participated and we hope that all eligible students will participate again next year.

My three sons are grown, but I had the opportunity to participate in "Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day" this year. It's the second year in a row that I hosted Seth, who is 8-years-old and lives in Maryland. I was glad to see my buddy again - a fellow Boy Scout. We had a great day together.

This morning I was on C-SPAN's Washington Journal with host John McArdle to talk about the 2018 Farm Bill, which touches Americans in every corner of the country.

Today, I was proud to stand with the House Agriculture Committee to announce H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018. This new Farm Bill addresses the economic challenges facing the nation’s farmers and ranchers while making historic investments in opportunities for SNAP recipients.

Earlier this week, I was pleased to meet with a number of future agriculture leaders as 4-H leaders from across the country who were in town for the National 4-H Conference. #FarmersFeed #NutritionMatters

Our U.S. agriculture industry is as wide and diverse as its people and plays a vital role in ensuring our nation continues to enjoy the most abundant and affordable food and fiber supply in the world. Happy #NationalAgDay from #HouseAg

Congressman Thompson was not on the train that collided with a vehicle earlier today in Corzet, Va. The Congressman drove his private automobile to the Republican retreat.

He is aware of the situation, has been communicating with his colleagues, and is praying for everyone involved in this terrible incident. The National Transportation Safety Board is sending highway and rail investigators to the scene and they'll be releasing more information as it is available.

No members of Congress were killed or seriously injured when the train carrying Republican members to their annual retreat in West Virginia collided with a dump truck on Wednesday morning near Charlottesville, Va.

I find it troubling that a majority of the Senate Democrats have chosen to severely jeopardize our military readiness, shut down essential government operations, and eliminate health care coverage for low-income children while setting an arbitrary deadline to address the DACA issue.

I maintain that we must achieve comprehensive immigration reform, which includes providing certainty on the status of those brought here as children, but a government shutdown is not the way to a...chieve this policy goal. I have been working toward a bipartisan agreement to protect the fate of the "Dreamers" and to ensure our borders are secure for the safety of all Americans.

In accordance with the law, my Bellefonte and Titusville district offices will be closed and many of my staff members will be furloughed for the duration of any budget impasse. I will remain in Washington working to get the impasse resolved. It is my hope that cooler heads will prevail and we can quickly find a resolution to reopen the federal government

January 19

The 45th annual March for Life took place on Friday, January 19, 2018 in Washington, D.C.

While stopgap funding bills are not ideal, I voted for the continuing resolution last night because it is an important step forward for the Children’s Health Insurance Program. Approving a six-year extension will provide states and families participating in the program the certainty they deserve.

I hope the Senate will do its job before midnight tonight. A #SchumerShutdown does not help the American people.
