A COVID-19-driven wool price collapse is expected to cost the State $200 million in lost export income this year off the back of reduced demand for the luxury fibre from China.
The decline in the benchmark Eastern Market Indicator, which has more than halved over the past two years to fall below $10/kg, could also see some WA farmers exiting wool production as they grapple with “six-figure” hits to their businesses.
