I enjoyed helping build the greenhouse and learning in Terry's permaculture classes (she offered me a scholarship for Young Farmers that I was able to take advantage of.). The course was invaluable, a...nd I loved our discussions and working together for solutions as a group. Exploring this forming ecovillage has helped me come up with designs for Veganville Ecovillage, which is also forming and creating all by-laws and business plans (and the non-profit portion) before purchasing land. I learned a lot about constructing a Green house. Working with the participants was both informative and we all had a great time. The solar powered water source was of great interest to me and I may h...ave to copy the set up. Great people here with a common goal. See More

I need someone to build a shed roof on my tiny house in Campbell, TX. The CEB house walls should be complete in the next month or two. The roof itself will be a tin roof, and I also need someone, hopefully the same someone to build a 10x8 wall and a 100 sq ft loft after the roof is on. The windows will need to be put in after the roof is on. So, if you are someone with experience in these matters or know someone who is, please leave a message here. I'd love to talk to you.

On Sunday we will be finishing a base coat of plaster on the existing walls to protect against weather (if not already completed during the week) and continue laying blocks on the upper walls.

Come on out and be a part of this historic 1st sustainable building made from compressed earth blocks at the Wildflower Ecovillage located in Greenville area of Hunt County, NE Texas area. You don't want to miss out on this great learning experience! There is no fee/charge to attend/par...ticipate.

Here you can gain valuable knowledge about earth building construction – specifically compressed earth block (CEB), which is a type of mechanized adobe made from natural earth and stabilizer pressed into blocks. Earth block walls are warm, breathable, energy efficient, soundproof, fireproof, bulletproof, bugproof, moldproof, long lasting (1,000+ years), non-toxic and renewable. We are currently working on finishing laying blocks for installation of the bond beams. You will learn first hand how to mix CEB mortar (similar but a bit different than typical masonry), how to lay and cut blocks perfectly, how to place a bond beam (wood and concrete) lime plastering and much, much more. We will be teaching the methods of our CEB instructor, Jim Hallock of Colorado Earth who is highly respected in the field of CEB. We will provide water. Please bring your own lunch and snacks as the nearest restaurants and stores are 10 miles away from the build location. Please, no small children or pets (unless official service animals) due to safety reasons as this is a worksite. Dressing in layers is recommended due to temperature fluctuation at this time of year. Gloves and waterproof boots are recommended.

Dates/times are subject to change depending on if we can get enough people to work and the weather. Feel free to email us at wildflowerecovillage@gmail.com, our meetup page in Wildflower Ecovillage or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/DFWEcovillage/ to let us know when you would like to attend and/or if you have any questions.
