ON THIS DATE - August 25, 1993: 22-year-old Philip Woldemariam was shot in Los Angeles and Snoop Doggy Dogg was charged with first-degree murder as an accomplice. Dogg's bodyguard, McKinley Lee, was charged with first-degree murder. Lee and Dogg said the shooting was in self-defense after Woldemariam pulled a gun.

After being demoted to the minors, Mickey Mantle returned to the New York Yankees on this day in 1951 and wore #7 for the first time.

Yankees slugger Mickey Mantle belts a Jim Bunning pitch over the right field roof at Briggs Stadium (Tiger Stadium) September 17, 1958. At the time only Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams had cleared the roof.
