Derby is a wonderful place to live: there is a small town feel with big city amenities, numerous parks to enjoy, the park crew keeps the town not only clean, but safe (especially when the winter storm...s hit), the water park is staffed with an elite team of supervisors and lifeguards, and city events keep the community closely knit. I love the town's pride, and living here in general. Keep up the great work! See More

I'm so bothered with the city of Derby not only are there season passes to Rock River Rapids way expensive( they don't even have a family passes), their daily passes are to expensive (they don't give ...a discount for Derby residence, when we paid for it with our taxes), and when you go to the pool they have crazy set of rules. Now they have taken away one of the free passes that you get through the reading program at the library. Way to be cheap Derby Chamber city. Thats a great thing to do to encourage our children to read by taking away one of the best rewards!!!!! Please share and comment so the city of Derby knows how we feel. See More

Good community in some ways. Has a lot of beautiful scenery in its parks. Everything you need is inside on the city so you don't have to leave into wichita. Most of the people are friendly except the ...elderly (in my experience) and the police/firefighters are all cool. You can bet they'll be at your house before you hang up the phone. See More

Overall, I love Derby! I have lived in many places and this is certainly one of the nicest towns I've ever lived in. I do wish it's growth of big box stores/restaurants would slow down a little, but... that's not a huge deal. The library has great programs and staff. So do the schools. The number of parks and fishing ponds is wonderful!

I think my biggest complaint is with the Derby Recreation Commission. I don't like the way they price their memberships/classes. I love going to the gym and I think health and fitness are very important. There are some months where I like to take a different fitness class every day, just to mix things up and keep myself interested. Then there are months where I only use the fitness equipment. The DRC offers a membership slightly cheaper than the YMCA, but it ONLY includes access to the gym and none of the classes. You have to pay extra for each individual class. This is why I have a membership at the YMCA and I drive all the way to Andover every day, just to work out. I would love to have a membership at the DRC, but I can't justify spending the extra $60-100 it would cost to take a class every day when I can get that included in my membership at the YMCA for only $5-$10 more. Also, included in the YMCA membership through the summer is access to all of their water parks. I don't think Rock River Rapids even has a discount if you have a membership at the DRC.

I absolutely love everything else about Derby; I just wish the DRC would rethink their membership/class prices. I know a lot of people who live in or closer to Derby and would be happy to use the DRC over the YMCA if they offered a membership package more comparable to the YMCA's.
