Destroyers
Women in regional areas already had trouble accessing abortions even before the Religious Discrimination Bill was proposed, but apparently it's even worse than we thought.

The Saturday Paper reports "many doctors [in Wagga Wagga] 'fear the outrage of conservative reactionaries, some of whom are fairly senior in the medical system here'."

...

The only doctor willing to speak on the record said, “'There are specialists that have been active pro-life picketers".

"The sense of panic extends to those registered to prescribe MS-2 Step, two tablets that induce a medical abortion, which can only be used up to nine weeks into the pregnancy" and "doctors say that neither Wagga’s public or Catholic hospital, nor the town’s private day clinic, provide elective surgical terminations."

Women must often rely on word of mouth to find a doctor who can help them. Nearby Albury-Wodonga Health are now turning Wagga women away as "it would not be able to treat women from outside its area after being completely overrun by neighbouring towns." https://www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/…/doctor…/15828948009443

The bill is supported by many conservative Christians although even Christians are divided in their views. A recent opinion piece by Luke Beck, Associate Professor of Constitutional Law, warned Christian supporters of the bill that it will very likely backfire on them. https://www.smh.com.au/…/religious-discrimination-bill-back…

Destroyers, how could the Religious Discrimination Bill blow back on its supporters - should they be careful of what they pray for? How common is the Wagga experience for women seeking an abortion and what can be done to protect pro-choice doctors and services from the interference of powerful anti-abortion colleagues?
