The Second Devonport Stamp, coin and Militaria Fair was held July 8. Over 200 people came to the show including some 50 children. We were pleased that our extra security measures were well received by stall holders, members and the public. Members displayed early Tasmanian stamps, thematics and militaria to show how diverse collecting in these areas can be. A special thanks to all our club members who rolled up sleeves and got stuck in.
Graeme and Gaye Chequer, from Hobart, were our guest speakers at our June meeting. Their 8 frame Open class thematic display 'Orchids' was the focus on how to display a collection in this exhibiting class. 14 lucky members were privileged the view an amazing collection. One interesting fact we learned was that such a display can carry non-philatelic items to assist in telling the story.
Monday night sees Hobart philatelists Graeme and Gaye Chequers present 'Philatelic Aspects of an ‘OPEN’ Class Display'.
Graeme and Gaye are highly respected philatelists in Australia and around the world. They have entered many exhibitions. They are prominant promoters of youth philately, thematic collecting and exhibiting and now turn their hands to more traditional philately.
Members are welcome to join us for an early dinner, 5pm, at Dannebrog Restaurant and meet our Hobar...t guests.
