Activisten van PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) protesteerden afgelopen weekend tegen onnatuurlijke fokprogramma's op Crufts 2018 (de grootste hondenshow ter wereld).
Zoekt u met ons mee naar Kostas?
Onze lieve Kostas is kwijt! ...
~ Please share for adoption: Golden Retriever and Border Collies ~
Please meet Zyno (a five-year-old castrated Golden Retriever), Finn (a two-year-old castrated... Blue Merle Border Collie) and Marley (a four-year-old Blue Merle Border Collie girl). These handsome three are all living with the same family and are looking for a new for-ever home.
The dogs were bought when they're puppies. About three years ago, the family moved to a new rental house were the landlord didn't allow the dogs to come inside the house. From that moment on, these three lived largely outside during the day (with an old shed that functions as a shelter). In the evening, when their former family was at home, the dogs were (secretly) allowed to come inside the house. However, a year ago their son was born and the dogs weren't allowed inside the house anymore (but it is causing conflicts in the relationship as the couple is not in agreement on this). At night, the dogs sleep in a heated storage room that is situated at the back of the house (which you can't enter from inside the house).
The family is very aware that this is far from an ideal situation and that the dogs deserve so much better. Therefore, they've asked if we could help find new for-ever homes for Zyno, Finn and Marley.
Zyno is a lovely and enthusiastic Golden Retriever. In 2014, at the age of 2.5, he became epileptic and since mid-2015 his is free of any epileptic fits due to the medication he received (Pexion). About 5 months ago, his former family stopped medicating him to see if he could live without the medication (when dogs have secondairy epilepsy, it can happen that the epilepsy disappears). So far, he is still fit free. Should he get a fit again, his new family should put him back on medication.
This giant sweetheart adores being part of a family. He is perhaps not the smartest Golden (fetching is not his thing) and he's also a bit clumsy, but he is cute clumsy, playfull and loves to give an receive a cuddle.
Finn and Marley are two very intelligent and inquisitive gentle Border Collies with a huge "will to please." Both are attentive, lively and very docile. Marley loves to play with her ball all day long. A sportive dog sport as agility or dogfrisbee will be perfect for her. Finn has real "herding" qualities and would be very suitable for sheep herding or for practicing another sportive dog sport. Both currently don't receive the spiritual challenge they need.
Finn is the most dominant of the three dogs (that is, he is the leader and the most self-assured dog of the three of them). Finn is incredibly sweet and intelligent too. However, he doesn't get enough spiritual challenge and is extremely bored. He's very eager to learn. Out of boredom - if he gets the chance - he sometimes demolishes something.
Marley is, character wise, a bit more shy and fearful. Especially towards men. This happened when, at the age of two, she was lost for five days. She escaped from the garden when she was, by mistake, left behind. She panicked and ran away. All the time she stayed in the vicinity and was spotted on a nearby railway and a motorway. After five days people were able to catch her and since then she hasn't been her old fearless self. She is very sweet and quiet at home, but she is not cuddly. If she wants to have a hug, she will to you to get one. If you force her to do something, she will raise her lip a bit, give a small growl and walks away to her dog basket (for clarity: she is not aggressive and has never bitten, but she clearly sets boundaries). Marley also has a lot of energy and herding qualities (less than Finn) and she adores playing with a ball. It is truly beautiful to see how agile and fast she snaps the ball out of the "air" when you throw it away.
All three dogs went to a dog behaviorial school. They are familiar with the basic commands: sit, lie, foot and leg and they listen well to their name. They all walk perfectly on a leash and can also walk without a leash. Both Marley and Zyno love to swim, but Zyno hasn't been swimming since he was diagnosed with epilepsy (this upon advice of the vet). However, you could go and swim with him, but need to be prepared to jump into the water if he ever gets an epileptic fit while he's swimming). All dogs can be taken on a drive in a car without any problems. They are well socialized. Marley and Zyno are afraid of fireworks and loud sounds, but Finn isn't. All dogs can get along with other dogs and cats (until recently there were also cats in the house that have already been adopted).
The ideal family for Zyno is a family where another, not dominant (castrated male or female) dog is present with a similar sweet character. For Zyno we are looking for a lovely family where one of the family members is at home most of the time and who doesn't mind that he has a medical problem that is well under control. We're looking for people who enjoy going out for a walk with him in the forrest, who like to play and cuddle with this fluffy friend.
We would like Marley and Finn to stay together and get adopted by the same family. The ideal family for Marley and Finn are sportive, stable, experienced dog owners who are familiar with the breed. We're looking for people who enjoy exercising sportive dog sports (for example: rescue, agility, dogfrisbee or herding for Finn). Both sweethearts really need spiritual stimulation and because of their curiosity and relatively young age they can still learn a lot. We don't place Marley and Finn with people who have children under the age of 10.
Marley has not been sterilized yet. Because she is currently in heat, this can only happen after 70-100 days. We will make proper arrangments with the adopters so that, when the time is right, Marley will get sterilized.
All dogs suffer (a bit) from overweight (simply because they get too little exercise) and Finn and Zyno have dandruff.
All dogs are in possession of a dog passport and the dogs will be fully taken care off by us before they are adopted (which means: vaccinated, anti-parasite pipettes and dewormed). In addition, they all get a dental cleaning and because Zyno currently suffers from an ear infection, the vet prescribed special ear drops (antibiotics). Zyno will also be groomed.
Note: Pexion costs about € 80 per 100 pills of 400mg. A dog like Zyno needs 1 pill twice a day. Approximated total daily costs: € 1,60.
If you are interested in adopting Zyno or Marley and Finn (together), or if you know people that might be interested in adopting one of these dogs, then please send us a personal message on messenger or fill in the registration form at: http://kfaaf.com/en/adoption/
