Statement Regarding Recent Executive Order Concerning Extreme Vetting
“America is a proud nation of immigrants and we will continue to show compassion to those fleeing oppression, but we will do so while protecting our own citizens and border. America has always been the land of the free and home of the brave.
We will keep it free and keep it safe, as the media knows, but refuses to say. My policy is similar to what President Obama did in 2011 when he banned visas for refugees from Iraq for six months. The seven countries named in the Executive Order are the same countries previously identified by the Obama administration as sources of terror. To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting.
This is not about religion - this is about terror and keeping our country safe. There are over 40 different countries worldwide that are majority Muslim that are not affected by this order. We will again be issuing visas to all countries once we are sure we have reviewed and implemented the most secure policies over the next 90 days.
I have tremendous feeling for the people involved in this horrific humanitarian crisis in Syria. My first priority will always be to protect and serve our country, but as President I will find ways to help all those who are suffering.”

First, Obama responded to an actual threat—the discovery that two Iraqi refugees has been implicated in bomb-making in Iraq that had targeted U.S. troops. (Iraq, after all, had been a war zone.) Under congressional pressure, officials decided to reexamine all previous refugees and also impose new screening procedures, which led to a slowdown in processing new applications. Trump, by contrast, issued his executive order without any known triggering threat.
Second, Obama did not announce there was a ban on visa applications. In fact, as seen in Napolitano’s answer to Collins, administration officials danced around that question. There was certainly a lot of news reporting that visa applications had been slowed to a trickle. But the Obama administration never said it was their policy to halt all applications. Even so, the delays did not go unnoticed, so there was a lot of critical news reporting at the time about the angst of Iraqis waiting for approval.
Third, Obama’s policy did not prevent all citizens of that country, including green-card holders, from traveling the United States. Trump’s policy is much more sweeping, though officials have appeared to pull back from barring permanent U.S. residents.

But no (zero) Americans have been killed by anyone on the countries you have listed. Over two thousand Americans have been killed by middle Eastern countries not on the list BUT where you have businesses. Why did you not list those countries if your concern for American safety is true?

Interesting. "To my conservative family and friends: You have been given a gift. The gift is this: Your guy won, your team has the house and the senate. And it's going....not great. My charge to you is this: figure out how you want to be represented in history. You are on the cusp of being the party that rose up and fought for what you told us you stood for, or you can be the people we have to explain to our children when they ask why no one fought the breakdown of our democracy.
If you voted for the president or a Republican senator because you believe in fiscal conservatism, you should be furious that your tax dollars are going to build a wall that will have zero impact on the effects of immigration.
If you hate the left because of "Political Correctness," you need to be asking yourself if you're okay with the President censoring communications from MULTIPLE government organizations like the National Park Service, the EPA and more.
If you voted because you hated Secretary Clinton's email server, I expect you to be calling your representatives to ask why Steve Bannon and others continue to use their unsecured personal emails and why your president is using an unsecured android device still.
If you voted because you believed there would be better protection against terrorists, you need to ask yourself why it's okay that your president just took away $130 million in anti-terror funds from New York with his punishment of Sanctuary Cities.
If you are angry that your insurance is too expensive, you should ask why your senators are repealing ACA without a replacement, an action that will leave 20 million people without insurance at all.
If you believe the Clinton initiative provided unequal treatment to countries that supported their foundation, you should be livid that your president has moved to block visas from Muslim countries like Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, but not places where he has business ties like Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
This is an opportunity to prove that you voted for the reasons you say you did. I am taking you seriously; I am taking you literally."

Charlotte and others need to get a grip and I am sick of the Liberal Media and their agenda. Trump is doing a great job and true patriots love him and his commitment to our Country.

Dr. Dr-James H Manley Jr. According to Article IV, Section 4 of the US Constitution, the national government is obligated to (a) guarantee each state a republican form of government, (b) protect each state from invasion, and (c) when asked by the state legislature - or executive if the legislature is not in session - to protect the state against "domestic violence."

Why did you not include the countries that produced terrorists who carried out fatal actions on our soil? It is highly suspicious that you did not ban countries ban that you and your family have business ties to. WHY?? This stinks of conflict of interest. #divestnow #showusyourtaxes #nobannowall

False. Obama's action put a pause on refugee applications, It not ban legal residents, green card holders. or those already vetted. It's not similar to what Obama did in the slightest.

I don't ever remember a President so real and so meaningful in what he says. Honestly if your against him you need to check your allegiance to the United States of America.

If this is being kept safe I'm not interested. The reality is we will all be far less safe because of this. Especially as we travel abroad. This is in no way the same as what Obama did in 2011. The people are speaking. #Listen #ResistTheHate

Banning people based on religion is a violation of the Constitution. You exempted countries where you have property -- what a hypocrite! Meanwhile, refugee families who went through years of vetting were turned away. Green card holders who are doctors, professors, scientists were turned away. This is a disgrace and not what America stands for.
