It is insane that in 2017, with all the amazing technologies we have today, Britain is still operating with the same archaic political system first established in 1707.

We could easily save £Billions and get rid of politicians altogether and just have an app where you can directly vote on the policies you like. Most people like a combination of policies from different parties so it would be better for the average voter too..

The Democratic Unionist Party, whose controversial policies include blocking gay marriage, could hold the balance of power in the new Parliament. The Northern Irish party is likely to be the Conservatives' first port of call as they look to form a government without a majority. And it is likely to s...

“If I had $1,000 a month, I might stand in one place, quietly exhaling with my eyes shut, for 15 or even 20 seconds before I resumed looking for a part-time job...."

A lovely followup article from Fast Company on the Bootstraps project. This time we learn what Americans actually want to spend their #basicincome on. Spoiler: it's not booze and video games.

If you want to support this important and ambitious project: share this post, follow Bootstraps - A Basic Income Film, and/or join in helping fund this new American basic income pilot at bit.ly/bootstrapspilot

☀️ Renewables provide more than half UK electricity for first time http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-40198567

The National Grid says alternative fuel generated more electricity than coal and gas in the UK on Wednesday.

This article needs to be shared:

"Since 2008, we’ve been encouraged to see the economy like a household budget: if households spend too much money, they need to cut down on living costs so they don’t get into too much debt. To that end, the magic money tree says that if we spend too much money, we can’t just simply grow more.

But actually, a country’s whole economy can grow more money if it needs to. Since 2009 the Bank of England has created £453bn of new electronic money to buy debt from the private sector using a mechanism called quantitative easing. Yes, you read that right: the Bank of England has created £453,000,000,000 of new money in the last eight years. Turns out the magic money tree is pretty big"

Theresa May knows that the issue isn’t whether we can grow money or not (we can), it’s that it’s then given to banks rather than nurses

"West Papua is home to one of the world’s largest gold mines (and third largest copper mine), known as the Grasberg Mine. Grasberg is majority-owned by the Amer...ican mining firm Freeport McMoRan.

"Since the Suharto dictatorship of Indonesia annexed West Papua in a 1969 U.N. referendum – largely viewed as a land grab – an estimated 500,000 West Papuans have been killed fighting to achieve independence.

"Freeport McMoRan was given rights to Grasberg when the Indonesian government signed the right to extract mineral wealth from the site in 1967. In order to preserve this quite literal gold mine, the Indonesian military uses brute force against the local indigenous population."

Vote tactically in these seats and we WILL prevent a tory majority.

Note: we can still win many more seats by voting tactically, these are just the very closest.
