With several ACC Championships, numerous NCAA tournament appearances and the highest number of players in the WNBA from the ACC, Duke has a proven record of team success and individual improvement. Using her Nationally Renowned philosophy, "Choice not Chance", Coach of the Year Coach Joanne P. McCallie has put together a camp designed to develop players using the methods she and her staff have used for the last 26 years as a head coach.
"I love the culture and vibe of the team, the style of play and the coaching staff. Development was a priority for me and Coach P is a 600 win coach- she knows her stuff, she’s coached at the highest levels and has produced great players, so I know development will be there for me. It’s a beautiful campus and the population at Duke is smaller which suits me personally. On top of this was the opportunity to come away with a degree from one of the highest ranked academic universities in the world, so really the best of both worlds. I am so excited for my college journey and I can’t wait for the development both physically and mentally to begin." - Miela
NCAA March Madness may have come and gone, but we are extremely proud to announce that Logan Thunder Junior and QBL Player Miela Goodchild has a...ccepted a 4 Year Scholarship to play basketball within Division 1 of the NCAA for the prestigious Duke University.
Miela becomes only the second Australian female and third Australian overall to play for the Blue Devils, following retired Opals Player Jessica Foley and current Duke Men’s player Jack White.
Miela will have the opportunity to be coached by one of the most successful coaches in NCAA History, 600+ win Coach Joanne Palombo-McCallie. We are sure that Miela will seize this opportunity with both hands and continue to add to her already impressive list of accomplishments.
The Thunder Family are extremely proud of Miela and what she has achieved so far! We know it is only the beginning!
Logan Basketball caught up with Miela to discuss this great opportunity:
LB: What did Duke have that made the decision to sign for Duke the right one for you?
The reason I chose Duke was it had it all! Duke has a renowned basketball culture, having produced the most WNBA players outside of Uconn, so I know I am going to learn and be challenged every day by some of the best players- which makes me really excited. Duke plays in the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference), I’ve always wanted to play and compete in the ACC as it is one of the toughest conferences in college basketball playing against high ranked teams every game. I can see myself in Duke,

LB: What are your top 2 goals heading into Freshman year?
One of my goals is to adjust to the college life both academically and socially as well as the athletic routine. Another goal is to work hard to be an impact for Duke, to accomplish Coach P’s and the Blue Devils goals in the ACC and in March madness. Personally, I have development and conference goals as well.
How can the Thunder Family stay up to date with your progress as a Blue Devil?
The best way is to follow Duke Women's Basketball on social media and/or my Instagram and Facebook Miela Goodchild where I hope to document my college court dreams and campus life as a Blue Devil.
SIGNING UPDATE: We've added 2018 CG Miela Goodchild to our roster. We are excited to welcome the Australia native to campus in the fall!
“Miela is special,” said Coach P, “She’s got great talent and great skills; point guard, two guard, really any kind of guard. But, I think the thing that separates her the most is her passion, her competition, and her work ethic. She’s a very gritty player. She loves competition and she loves to make her teammates better across the board. So, we’re absolutely thrilled, excited, and looking forward to working with her.”
NEWS: Effective today, Coach P is taking a two month medical leave of absence to address a kidney-related ailment. The ailment was originally diagnosed in Nov. 2017.
Nothing but support and well wishes for our Coach! 💙
