Two Marketing Communication faculty will further their work with the help of Huret Faculty Excellence Awards. Nejem Raheem is studying the effects of drought on humans, and Paul Mihailidis is examining the way people use media in small-scale civic action.

“When she goes abroad . . . she’s regarded as a celebrity. . . . . When she comes back, she’s just a normal person.” A female baseball player is the subject of a film made by Emersonians that will air tomorrow (Feb. 25) as part of a college filmmaking competition on cable sports channel NESN.

We were recently forwarded a project by our good friends at Save That Stuff, Inc. and ended up with a truckload of retired audio and video equipment from Emerso...n College! The equipment was still in great shape, so we reached out to some local folks and connected with Braden Moriarty the Media Specialist at Somerville High School (Somerville Public Schools). We were able to donate most of the equipment to the school, and Braden, who coincidentally is an Emerson alum, was overjoyed to be able to beef up his inventory. His students were psyched to have new tools, and vintage ones, at their fingertips!

For the fourth year, Emerson students will travel to El Paso, Texas, for Alternative Spring Break (ASB). There, they will participate in an immersion program that focuses on understanding the intersection of issues faced by border communities, including immigration policy, education, labor rights, and food justice.
