Thank you to everyone who have been patiently waiting for Emma's research paper to finally get posted on her blog. It has taken me awhile to get to as I had to reformat the entire thing in order to post it.

This paper was an assignment for Emma's English class and took Emma more than five months to complete.

60 of my Facebook friends "like" Autism Speaks. I suspect most of you do so because you believe the organization has the best interests of people like me in m...ind. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Autism Speaks:

-- consistently ignores, sidelines, and silences Autistic adults
-- drives a research agenda around Autism focused on "cures" and "treatments" rather than on making our lives easier
-- puts forward voices of people who consider us a burden and promotes sympathy for people who murder, abuse, and neglect their Autistic loved ones while dehumanizing the victims of that violence

If you want to help Autistic people, please support movements and organizations with Autistic leadership.

From Emma's mom - To all non-speakers and those who cannot use spoken language to communicate please, please fill out Emma's survey that she worked so have to create: https://docs.google.com/…/1FAIpQLScuJamTtfvfbh-rI…/viewform…

"Because many existing communication methods are underrepresented in most schools, I created a survey to find out what methods students use, what they are being taught to use and how successful each is. Additionally I am curious to know whether a stud...ent’s school allows the communication method chosen by each student to be the most beneficial, and if not, how the student then communicates their complex thinking and knowledge." ~ Emma Zurcher-Long

"I hope you will add your voice and experience by participating in my survey. I am glad if you do.

Hi All,
This is a survey my daughter, Emma wrote for an english assignment. She is writing a research paper on "the different methods used for those who canno...t rely on spoken language to communicate their complex thinking and knowledge." To all who are able and willing, would you please share this with anyone you know who cannot rely on spoken language to communicate? We are hoping to get at least 100 responses. Thank you so much, really appreciate any and all who are willing to take the time to fill out her survey.
