I have never been political ever since I came to the public spotlight as an influencer or even before that. My mission and vision is crystal clear – to contribu...te with things I am capable of in order to bring impact! My desire has always been to advocate for practical knowledge/education, particularity to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) to leapfrog innovation and bridge the digital & economic divide! I first met Dr. Abiy Ahmed on July 2017 when I visited Ethiopia. I never knew of him or about him before that. I vividly remember how opportunity presented itself to meet him. A mutual friend (Dr. Mehret Debebe, a psychiatrist, an amazing public speaker, a prolific writer and author of several books) and I had dinner. In the middle of our conversation regarding my upcoming book about Science & Tech, Dr. Mehret mentioned to me About Dr. Abiy and said “he is a good friend. You should meet him. He likes your TV show on EBS and appreciates what you are doing. He was the former Minister of Science & Tech and an avid advocate of innovation. He is a very busy man, but he might be willing to review your book and give you some feedback.” I immediately said ok. Dr. Mehret arranged the appointment. I was punctual and arrived at his office 15 min early. I was not sure what kind of person to expect – his secretary prompted me to his office door. I guess I anticipated an older individual, but I was warmly greeted by such a young and charismatic gentleman. What has struck me the most was his poise, humbleness, friendliness, contentment, and calm personality. Not long after few minutes into our conversation, I learned how a serious man of faith he was! We talked theology, faith, intelligent design, God, creation, the universe, big bang and all 🙂 He gave me his kind words and encouraged me on the things I do to promote science and tech through my TV show on EBS. After our icebreaker conversation, I presented my book to him. His response was heartwarming and very encouraging. I was not shy to ask his feedback and comment on my entire draft manuscript. His response was immediate – “I have a tight schedule, but I will review your book in its entirety if you give me some time.” I was beyond happy! After my return to the US, I took an immediate action by sending him few chapters of my book. Little by little, he reviewed the entire manuscript (23 chapters with more than 350 pages) and gave me his generous comment and great feedback! That gave me a glimpse of his character and attitude towards positive change, and his desire to see Ethiopia prosper in innovation. I would like to say congratulations for his Prime Minister appointment! I can only imagine how heavy the weight of his new responsibility is; especially at the moment when Ethiopia is at the crossroad. I pray and hope he will lead the nation into reconciliation, peace, and prosperity! And one of my best experience while I was in Ethiopia was when #DrAbiy invited me to attend (pictured) the commencement ceremony of Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) students. I will never forget our conversation in the car while traveling to Adama together, a lunch time hospitality, and our chat on our return back to Addis. Him being the leader, I see a bright future for the progress of #Innovation, #STEM, #ResearchAndDevelopment, and advances in #ScienceAndTech!

AFRICA, thank you!!

The West has consistently survived on good public relations, seemingly with good intentions; foreign aid, donations to refugee camps and a host of other seeming...ly good political and humanitarian gestures. But the agenda of the Berlin Conference, 100 years later is still intact, divide, conquer and get as much wealth as possible while Africans fight wars and the world watches.
