We live in Lawrence and drive to Eudora to participate in their youth sports programs and swimming lessons because they are so amazing. The staff are polite and kind to the kids and their swim instru...ctors are unbelievable! I would recommend Eudora Parks and Rec hands down! See More

ALL PK/K and 1st/2nd grade games in Eudora have been cancelled today. Out of town games are being played in De Soto and Baldwin.

General Definition of Work

Under general supervision, performs various maintenance duties at recreation buildings and facilities, including sports fields, park, playground and picnic areas, swimming pool, and other parks & recreation facilities; and performs related work as required. Other duties may be required and expected to be provided at a high quality.

Qualification Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required. Essential Functions

• Performs tasks related to sports field maintenance including dragging/raking fields; lining/painting fields; laying seed/turf; fence repair; weed control applications; etc.
• Performs services and repairs as needed to maintain sport fields and park facilities (construction projects; minor electrical/plumbing repairs; masonry; carpentry; painting; cleaning restrooms, shop/work areas; etc).
• Provides manual labor functions as directed.
• Operates/maintains equipment and machinery used in sport fields and park facilities maintenance (truck/trailer; tractor; mowers; infield groomer; utility vehicle).
• Performs janitorial and custodial maintenance of recreational facilities grounds and buildings; including restroom maintenance and trash disposal.
• Prepares set up for a variety of events.
• Inspects facilities and equipment and performs repairs.
• Supervise part time and seasonal help as needed.
• Operates floor machines: vacuum, buffer, and floor scrubbers.
• Turf management—mowing, aerating, fertilizing, top dressing, edging, and weed spraying.
• Performs other duties deemed necessary by the administrative team.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance, knowledge of care and operation of related tools and equipment, CPR and First Aid Certification, federal, state and city safety rules and regulations, be able to do mathematical calculations, have strong written and verbal skills, perform acreage and square footage calculations, perform water calculations, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, government officials and the general public.

Job Requirements:

• A pre-employment drug screening is required.
• A pre-employment background check is required.
• May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to work flexible hours with the evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to complete league schedules, organize teams, implement sports programs, organizing officials and coaches, coordinating rules meetings, officials meetings and officials training.
• Abide by all policies of the city as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Employee Safety Policy.
• Arrive to work when scheduled and on time.

Technical skills:

A working knowledge of parks equipment and maintenance is required; knowledge of basic math and computer skills; the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

Problem solving:

Problem solving is a factor in this position. This employee encounters problems with equipment malfunctions and citizen complaints. Serious problems are reported to the Parks and Recreation Director.


This position is subject to supervision from the Parks and Recreation Director and must be able to handle supervision in an independent setting.

Financial Accountability:

This employee does not participate in financial budgeting.

Personal relations:

Daily contact with general public, co-workers, and supervisory personnel is expected. Must have the ability to maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the public.

Working conditions:

This position works both indoor and outdoor locations with variable climatic conditions (heat, cold wet and dry), variable terrain, exposure to dust and pollen, and proximity to hazardous materials including paints, solvents, cleaning agents, and pool chemicals. Position may require irregular working hours during the day and evening, and may include weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to hear and speak adequate to communicate in person by phone & radio; vision to distinguish colors, depth perception, body movement adequate to drive vehicles and operate equipment; strength to safely perform lifting and carrying items up to 75 lbs; tolerance to work under adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc). Physical demand requirement level is listed as very heavy work.
